The high-level economic reform suggestion commission formed by the government has proposed a new policy to attract digital nomads. According to this, digital nomads are asked to be granted a multiple-entry visa valid for 5 years at a time if their monthly income is more than 1,500 US dollars or their balance in the bank is more than 20,000 US dollars.

In the response submitted by the Commission to the Ministry of Finance on Friday, a condition has been proposed that digital nomads must present proof of health insurance worth 100,000 US dollars to pay for treatment in hospitals in Nepal in order to get a visa . Although the validity of the digital nomad visa is 5 years, it is suggested to grant a residence permit of maximum one year at a time .

"Digital visa applicants will be allowed to open a convertible currency account in a commercial bank of Nepal," the commission's report says, "If the account has more than 50,000 dollars, the excess amount will be allowed to be transferred to a foreign bank at any time." If the visa is not renewed after the expiry of the 5-year visa period, the entire amount remaining in the bank will be taken.' 

If a digital nomad stays in Nepal for 183 days or more, he will be charged 5 percent income tax on the income he earns here. The commission has suggested to the government.
