US President Donald Trump has extended the deadline given to Chinese technology company ByteDance by 75 days to sell TikTok's US business to local investors or face sanctions in the US.

Trump, who suspended the then ban for two and a half months as soon as he takes over the government, said that he would find a solution to the Tik Tok dispute, and has announced an extension.

He has informed through his own social network Truth Social that he has added 75 days time for Tiktok . He wrote, 'We have made significant progress in discussions with ByteDance and other stakeholders. This additional time will help us complete the required permissions and keep TikTok up and running for millions of US users.' In the

post, Trump defended the additional taxes (tariffs) he imposed on China and mentioned that China is not happy because of the announcement, but decisions like tariffs are necessary for a strong economy and national security. He has mentioned that this matter will be resolved by talking to China . The first deadline given by Trump expired on Saturday .

Potential US action against TikTok is a long-running dispute. It first started in 2019 when the US Committee on Foreign Investment began an investigation into ByteDance's musical procurement process. Then in 2020, Trump announced through an executive order that he would ban TikTok in the US if ByteDance does not sell it to an American company. But after the legal challenges raised on this, the court suspended the ban.

Continuing the Sino-US trade war and the monitoring of Tiktok that started in the previous term of Trump, the Biden government after him issued a law and directed that the operation of Tiktok in the US should be operated by American owners or it should be banned. Tiktok leadership has been repeatedly claiming that they have not violated any law, including going to the US Senate and giving a statement. But Washington DC has been expressing suspicions that the personal data of about 170 million Americans may be misused and pose a risk to national security.

Trump, who was very negative towards Tiktok in his previous term, has been expressing that he will not allow Tiktok to be closed as much as possible until he takes over the new office and that he will come up with a solution for it. Senior leadership, including Trump's Vice President JD Vance, have publicly stated that the dispute regarding TikTok's US business is close to an agreement.

Tiktok, which is believed to be used regularly by nearly 140 million Americans, has become a very popular app in America. The company claims that it has given millions of users opportunities to create short video content and promote their business and employment. ByteDance has made it clear that it has not shared any US user data with the Chinese government. According to the US Constitution, the government's decision regarding the ban violates the right to freedom of speech, but it has been repeating that it is ready to tolerate the ban.

According to the signal given by the US government, companies such as Amazon, Oracle, Microsoft, Zoom, Blackstone, Applevine, alone and jointly, have shown interest in buying Tiktok's American business . Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, Irish-American businessman Frank McCourt, YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson i.e. Mr. Beast, OnlyFans founder Tim Stokely, search engine Perplexity, and many other businessmen are also trying to buy American businesses alone or jointly, according to the BBC. The Trump administration claims that the current deadline extension will help move such a potential deal forward and complete the paperwork.

According to the instructions of the US government, ByteDance cannot own more than 20 percent of TikTok's American business. Tiktok responded that they are in discussions about how to continue the future of the app in the US, but no decision has been made.

A spokesperson for the company has admitted that they are in discussions with the White House. The spokesman said in his statement, 'No consensus has been reached as many issues remain to be resolved. For any kind of agreement, permission must be obtained from the Chinese government.' The company claims that they are working with President Trump to find a long-term solution.
