An agreement has been reached between the Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade to form a joint commercial council.

The Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade has reached an agreement on the establishment of a Joint Chamber of Commerce with the team of the Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which is visiting Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.

It is said that the Joint Commercial Council will facilitate investment promotion and investment exchange in both countries. Chandra Prasad Dhakal, who is leading the Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who is in Bangkok, said that the Chamber of Commerce will help identify potential areas for investment when the investment environment in Nepal is improving.

He said that Thai businessmen have shown interest in tourism, services, food processing, packaging, construction materials production in Nepal. Chairman Dhakal also said that the Thai Chamber of Commerce has been requested to provide on-arrival visas to Nepali industrialists during the talks.

He said, "We especially requested Thai businessmen to invest in Nepal. We appealed to them to invest by saying that the old laws of Nepal have been changed and the environment for investment has become comfortable and the government has also given priority to foreign investment. They have also shown interest in tourism, hospitality and other fields.'

President Dhakal said that Thai businessmen have been saying that investment will be affected due to lack of political stability in Nepal. He said that because the government has also changed the policy to facilitate foreign investment, they are of the opinion that investment will not be affected.

In the process of forming the BIMSTEC Chamber, he said that they have made progress in making it active by discussing with the member states.

He said, 'We have asked the Thai government to take the initiative for the on-arrival visa for the industrialists going from Nepal. They said they would take the initiative. He also expressed concern that there is doubt about the possibility of investment as there is no political stability in Nepal. We are of the opinion that since the political activity and the economic situation are different, it does not matter because the policy has changed now.'
