A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Nepal National Human Rights Commission and the International Labor Organization (ILO) to cooperate in promoting and protecting the basic labor rights of workers in Nepal. This agreement will be valid for five years.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Secretary of the Commission Murari Prasad Kharel and the Head of ILO, Numan Ozkan. The Commission and the ILO said the agreement was an important step to ensure decent labor and social justice. It is said that this will help promote sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent labor for all. In the

agreement, there is a mention of increasing the capacity of the commission to monitor and investigate labor rights violations under national laws and ILO conventions, promoting labor rights, implementing programs to strengthen basic labor rights enforcement in Nepal, and strengthening cooperation with national human rights organizations of major destination countries to protect the rights of Nepali workers in foreign employment.

Human Rights Commission Chairman Top Bahadur Magar said that the agreement will help in the promotion and implementation of fundamental labor rights. "Article 34 of the Constitution of Nepal guarantees every worker the right to fair labor practices, dignity, fair treatment and social security," he said, "the agreement between the Commission and the ILO will help to implement it effectively."

Commission Secretary Murari Prasad Kharel said that international cooperation is necessary to protect human rights, labor rights and the rights of migrant workers.

Ozkan, the head of ILO, Nepal, said that the agreement will help advance Nepal's commitment to international labor standards. This is not just a piece of paper. It is a commitment to work together to protect workers' rights and ensure that labor rights are seen and treated as human rights," he said. "When workers are denied fair wages, forced to work in unsafe conditions and their voices are suppressed - that is not just a labor issue. That is a human rights issue. This agreement helps to monitor, document and address to ensure workers' rights.'
