The government has released the draft of 'Digital Nepal Framework 2.0' identifying artificial intelligence (AI) technology as a key tool for digital transformation. The government has revised the previous framework with the aim of advancing Nepal into the digital age by making strategic use of digital technology.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli released the first version of Digital Nepal Framework (DNF 1.0) in October 2076. Although 80 digital projects in eight major sectors were initiated with the goal of being completed within the financial year 2080/81, they could not be implemented . Ownership issues, lack of inter-agency coordination, limited resources, lack of funding and It is mentioned in the draft of the new framework that there is a challenge in implementation due to lack of technical capacity.
The government has revised the framework by giving priority to infrastructure development with new technology, policies to prepare skilled manpower and effective implementation mechanisms to solve these challenges. The draft Digital Nepal Framework 2.0 proposes to use AI as a transformative tool in sectors such as health, financial services, agriculture, tourism, education and disaster management.
For the effective implementation of DNF 2.0, priority has been given to important aspects such as high-quality Internet expansion such as 5G, preparation of data hosting and cloud infrastructure, strengthening of digital identity system and increase of digital literacy . The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has prepared a draft of Digital Nepal Framework 2.0. The ministry has requested to study the draft and send its suggestions.
Cyber security, data protection, AI readiness, e-signature and authentication are highlighted in the framework as the foundation of a secure, transparent and accountable digital system. In the Digital Nepal Framework 2.0, building skilled people for the information technology sector, improving the digital skills and capabilities of government people, and developing the overall digital economy of the country It has been pointed out as its main objective.
