On the occasion of the Nepali New Year, the 20th Fewa New Year Festival will be held from Chait 30 to Baisakh 1 in the organization of Hotel Association Pokhara Nepal. The association held a press conference in Pokhara on Monday and informed that various committees and sub-committees have been formed to complete the festival.

Laxman Subedi, the coordinator of the festival and the president of the association, announced that a 20 percent discount on the prevailing rate will be provided to the guests who spend the night in member hotels of the association on the occasion of the festival. He informed that the Association has recently completed the 'Jaaun Hai Pokhara' campaign in Eastern Nepal for the promotion of the festival and that such a campaign will be conducted in Western Nepal soon.

'Until two decades ago, domestic tourists visiting Pokhara were only three percent,' he said, 'due to programs like Jaaoon Hai Pokhara Abhiyan and Fewa New Years Festival, it has now reached 40 percent.' He said that the number of Indian tourists is also significant. The association estimates that the 1,200 hotels in Pokhara have a capacity of 40,000 tourists and the investment in the hotel sector alone is around 5 trillion rupees.

There is free entry to the festival which will be conducted on the road from Damside to Khare in Lakeside. The general secretary of the association Rajendra Dhakal informed that this festival is going to be held with the main objective of preserving Nepali culture and promoting traditional Nepali food. Raithane and traditional food exhibition, cultural program, entertainment and sports program, tourist race, pop concert, exhibition of agricultural and handicraft materials and folk dance program will be the major attractions of the festival.

This festival, which is going to be held in the tourist capital of Pokhara during the 'Pokhara Visit Year 2025', aims to protect Phewa Lake and promote internal and external tourism. General Secretary Dhakal said that the festival was organized with the intention of celebrating the Nepali New Year with the same joy as the English New Year and to protect its original culture by promoting it. The opening program of the festival will be held at Ammat in Lakeside with a cultural tableau. The festival will be supported by Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality, Hotel Association Nepal, Gandaki Provincial Government and Nepal Tourism Board.

In a press conference, Maniraj Lamichhane, head of Nepal Tourism Board Gandaki, said that Fewa Festival will help in the promotion of tourism in Pokhara. Bharatraj Parajuli, a member of the advisory council of the organizing association and a central member of the Hotel Association of Nepal, said that a positive atmosphere will help promote tourism.
