There is no way to build a guide bond destroyed by Mahakali

The construction of the concrete bridge over the Mahakali river has not been started for 6 months after the guide bond on the east side was washed away. Even though the rains are approaching, due to the lack of progress in the construction of the guide bond, the risk of flooding of Mahakali by destroying the access road of the bridge and entering the slums has increased.

In the last week of last August, the flood of Mahakali broke the guide bond and entered the pond being constructed next to the bridge. "Work can be done in Mahakali for two months now, there is no chance of construction yet," said Krishnasingh Deuba, the former ward president of Bhimdatta Municipality-12, "We demand that at least a guide bond should be built in the place destroyed by the flood." If it cannot be done, there is a risk of destroying the access road and flooding the settlement.'

In October 2078, there was the biggest flood in Mahakali so far. At that time, the water level of Mahakali reached 547 thousand cusecs. The flood destroyed the access road of the under-construction concrete bridge. Last August too, 4 lakh 61 thousand cusecs was flooded in Mahakali. The flood has destroyed about two meters of the guide bond of the pool constructed on the bridge side.

'At least we are saying that we should create a working environment in the demolished place,' said Kishore Pandey, engineer of Kumar Shrestha CFEC JV, a company involved in the construction of the Mahakali Bridge, 'If we cannot start the work even now, there may be a risk of drought.' The length of the four-lane bridge built on the Mahakali River to connect Bhimdatta and Dodhara Chandni Municipalities is 800 meters. The width of the river is 2 km. On both sides of the river, ponds of 6/6 hundred meters width and 2800 meters length are going to be built.

The design of making a guidebond with gabion mesh and plumb concrete along the river bank near the pond was approved in March last year. Although the design was approved, the construction company made a guide bond without any variation. But after the flood, the payment has not been received. Engineer Pandey said that if the work is not started immediately, it will be difficult to make a guide bond even in the damaged area.

About 95 percent of the work including concrete bridges, access roads and guide bonds has been completed. Now only 200 meters of access road black paper and guide bond work is left.

Mahakali Bridge Engineer Santosh Chand said that the last time the design of the guide bond was changed and sent to the department. "Once approved by the department, the way to work will be opened, it is hoped that the design and variation will come within a week," he said, "After that, the construction company is also in a state of preparation to proceed with the work immediately."  After the

variation, the cost of the bridge is estimated to reach more than 4 billion. In 2074, an agreement was signed with Kumar Shrestha CFEC JV for 3 billion 27 crores to be built within 3 years.
