Six months after the flood damage, the contract has been invited for the construction of the Sindhuli section of the BP highway. The contract was called for on Wednesday with a 30-day deadline. A two-lane road will be constructed on a five-km stretch.

It will take three months to complete the contract process, said Parasmani Hamal, Head of Road Division, Khalte, Sindhuli. The contract has been awarded to construct the road in Nepalthok-Barkhekhola section. "Construction professionals will be mobilized to the construction site after signing the contract before the rains," said Hamal, "Construction will start only after the rains."

``Currently, temporary repair work is being done to keep the road running when there is a normal flood,'' he said, ``Gabin walls are being installed in places.'' Suman Yogesh, head of road division Bhaktapur, said that the contract for the Kavre section is also ready to be awarded within a few days. "We will not delay much, we have already submitted the cost estimate to the road department for the contract," said Hamal, "as soon as it is approved, the contract will be invited." "There has been no decision from JICA yet," he said, "We will not wait and delay, we will proceed with the contract process." Yogesh said that the construction work will be carried forward by making four packages, including three in Kavre and one in Sindhuli.

Yogesh says that the contract will be called so that it can be built within two years. 23 km road will be constructed in Kavre section. "A two-lane road will be built according to the standard of 28 kilometers through Kavre and Sindhuli sections," he said, "we have received resource consent for construction." The Bhakundebesi to Nepalthok road section, which was damaged by the flood, will be permanently constructed. Bhmarjun Adhikari, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, said that the construction work will be done as soon as possible on the BP highway, where the traffic is high.

"The contract towards Sindhuli has been done, the final preparations are being made to contract the Kavre section," he said. Due to lack of resources for a long time, the work of the contract process could not proceed. The Ministry of Finance has prioritized the BP highway and given resource consent on February 6, and the way has been opened to proceed with the process of permanent construction.

Funds were requested through Road Division Bhaktapur and Khalte for the permanent construction and maintenance of the highway, according to which a resource agreement of Rs 7.5 billion was received for the Bhaktapur section and Rs 1 billion for the Khurkot section. The Kavre Bhanjang-Nepalthok section has caused more damage due to landslides. Its 8.7 km road section is washed away by Roshi river. 28 km road is going to be constructed permanently by cutting all the damaged sections.

A budget was demanded for the permanent construction of flood-damaged Arnico highway, Mechi highway, Biblate-Maipokhari-Sandakpur road, Kanti highway, Charikot-Singti road, Siddharth highway, Khurkot-Milti and Tamakoshi-Milti road. According to that, the road department got the resource consent of 18 billion 882 million rupees. According to which, 15 billion 83 million 10 million rupees for highway, 1 billion 90 million 10 million rupees for bridges and 1 billion 15 million rupees for alternative roads have been agreed.
