After Rasuwa, the infrastructure for trade at Tatopani, the main trade point with China, has become difficult. Although there is a strong potential for foreign trade, the government report has pointed out that there are sufficient physical infrastructure and procedural problems. It is stated in the report prepared by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply that despite efforts to facilitate bilateral trade flow, the problem remains.

The report prepared by Sita Niraula Phuyal, Deputy Secretary Ramila Bhandari, Santosh Kumar Shrestha, Deputy Subba Damodar Timilsina, Deputy Secretary of the Bilateral Trade and Transport Branch under the Ministry states that there is a shortage of physical infrastructure for trade. The Ministry's team reached Tatopani checkpoint from February 5 to 11. It is mentioned that there is a procedural problem of physical infrastructure for trade expansion in the report made by focusing on the study of customs, warehousing, quarantine and transport management of Tatopani crossing.

Nepal-China trade facilitation has various aspects. Despite efforts to facilitate bilateral trade flow, there are physical infrastructure and procedural problems," the report said, adding that simplification of the customs process is necessary. The digital system should be used to the maximum to facilitate business.'  The

report says the quarantine process needs to be improved. The report states that the quarantine system is not fully implemented as per the required standards. Additional amendments are required to ensure the health safety of imported and exported goods. It is necessary to identify the necessary improvements to make the quarantine process faster and more effective," the report said.

The ministry has also raised questions on warehouse management. It is mentioned in the report that although there is a capacity to hold 20 containers, it is not according to the demand. It is also said that measures to make the storage process modern and efficient should be adopted and storage capacity should be increased by building more infrastructure.

It is mentioned in the report that the Intermodal Transport Development Committee will direct the repair work to proceed immediately regarding the damage caused by the flow of the Bhotekoshi river in the Tatopani customs area. "Repairing the damage caused by the flow of the Bhotekoshi river and instructing to adopt safety measures for the physical structure to prevent further damage," the report suggested.

It is mentioned in the report that the upgradation and regular maintenance of highways are mandatory for business facilitation. The report also emphasized that a long-term solution is needed to reduce traffic congestion.

The Intermodal Transport Development Committee has been instructed to build infrastructure, said Ramila Bhandari, information officer of the ministry. "Intermodal has started the contract," she said. The tender for the construction of the retaining wall has already been issued. Now the work will start soon," he said.

According to the customs department, the business of Tatopani customs post has been increasing for the last 5 years. In 2077/78, the import was 5 billion 84 crore 91 lakh rupees. There was no export at that time. In 2078/79, imports increased to 14.2 billion 37 million. There was no export that year either. In 2079/80, the import was 13 billion 21 million 1 lakh. Exports were worth 59 lakh rupees.

In 2080/81, import trade increased to 40 billion 34 billion 33 million rupees, the department said. According to the data of the department, exports are also worth 93 lakhs. Imports of 27 billion 25 billion 91 million have been made till January of the current financial year. Thus import trade  It is mentioned in the report that institutional coordination is also necessary for business expansion as

s are increasing. For that, it has been pointed out in the report that Tatopani Customs Office, Quarantine Office, Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee and Transsilk Pvt Ltd should be coordinated. The report also states that in order to improve warehouse management, new infrastructure should be built to increase storage capacity and it is essential to develop a safe and orderly warehouse system. Apart from this, it is said that the installation of charging stations for electric vehicles is also necessary.

"To encourage environment-friendly transport, a charging station should be built in the Tatopani area, to facilitate the trade and customs process, as the Tatopani crossing is easy and short in terms of distance compared to other crossings, this crossing should be given high priority," said the report. In addition to this, the report also mentions that because Belibridge will be damaged during the rainy season, a concrete bridge should be made as an alternative to Belibridge.

"It seems that building a concrete bridge can be a long-term solution," the report says, "for this, the government should take an initiative to build a concrete bridge." An emergency action plan should be created to minimize the damage caused by natural disasters. Apart from this, the report states that sanitary and phytosanitary reforms are necessary for the protection of indigenous products.

There are 14 bilateral and international trade points and traditional points in operation between Nepal and China. However, due to the geographical complexity and poor infrastructure conditions, the effective operation of the crossing has not been possible.
