Contracts are being awarded next week for permanent construction on BP Highway

The contract will be invited next week for the permanent construction of the BP highway which was damaged by the flood last October. For that, Road Division Office Bhaktapur said that the purchase master plan has been approved by Road Department. Even before the contract for permanent construction is awarded, temporary repair work has already started.

Suman Yogesh, Head of Road Division, Bhaktapur, said that preparations are being made to invite contracts for permanent construction by next Tuesday. "The cost estimate has been finalized," he said, "now we have accelerated the temporary repair work, after the contract agreement, we will proceed with the permanent construction." He said that it will take at least three months to mobilize construction workers after signing the contract. "The contract will be signed before the rains, and the contractor will start the permanent construction work accordingly," he said. "So our aim is to start the permanent construction work before the rains." Kavre and Sindhuli sections of two lanes in 28 km. We will build the road according to the

standard,' he said, 'for that, we have received resource consent from the Ministry of Finance.' He said that the flood-damaged Bhakundebensi to Nepalthok road section will be constructed permanently, in which two and a half kilometers will be towards Sindhuli and the rest will be in the Kavre section. "The border area of ​​Kavre and Sindhuli is Barkhe river," he said, "There has been a resource agreement to build a permanent road in both sections." "If we have to do it, we have suggested to work on new technology, we have asked to do it with grant support," he said.

'Now it is difficult to wait for a long time,' he said, 'if JICA decides there will be no problem, otherwise we will end the work of the contract process.' There was a problem of resources for the construction of the road damaged by the flood last October. Due to non-availability of resources, the work of the contract process could not proceed. With the Ministry of Finance giving BP highway first priority and giving resource consent on February 6, the way to proceed with the process of permanent construction has been opened. 

BP demanded Rs 8.5 billion for the highway. Funds were requested through Road Division Bhaktapur and Khurkot for the permanent construction and maintenance of the highway. According to this, 7 billion 500 million in Bhaktapur section and 1 billion rupees in Khurkot section have been approved.

Kavre Bhanjang-Nepalthok section 12 km road has been damaged by landslides. Its 8.7 km road section is washed away by Roshi river. After all the damaged sections, the 28 km road is divided into four packages and the contract is going to be awarded, in which there will be three packages in Kavre and one package in Sindhuli.

A budget was requested to permanently construct the flood-damaged Arnico highway, Mechi highway, Biblate-Maipokhari-Sandakpur road, Kanti highway, Charikot-Singti road, Siddharth highway, Khurkot-Milti and Tamakoshi-Milti road. The road department has received a resource consent of 18 billion 882 million rupees from Artha. 15 billion 83 million 10 million for highways, 1 billion 90 million 10 million for bridges and 1 billion 15 million for alternative roads. According to the department, the contract process has been advanced. 

According to the road department, work is being done to complete the contract management of the roads damaged by the floods of October by the middle of February. For that, the purchase master plan of all the roads has been requested. Arjun Prasad Aryal, Deputy Director General and Spokesperson of the Roads Department, said that although the contract agreement for the bridge has already been signed, the construction work will start only after the monsoon.
