Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka has reappointed Bal Bahadur Parajuli as a member of the Board of Directors of Nepal Electricity Authority. Parajuli resigned on January 24 due to personal busyness.
Minister Khadka again appointed Parajuli as a member of the board of directors of the authority last Friday. On December 2, Parajuli and Laxman KC were appointed as members of the board of directors of the authority. Their tenure will be 4 years .
KC Congress is the president of Center for Democratic Engineers Nepal (CDEN) while Parajuli is close to UML . Janardhan Joshi filed a writ against the appointment of KC on December 18 in Patan High Court. A single bench of the court, Judge Tikaram Acharya, had issued an interim order saying that the appointment decision and nomination letter should not be implemented until the final decision is reached on December 26.
Since then, KC has not been able to work as a director of the authority . An official of the Ministry of Energy said that due to the fear of getting a lawsuit regarding the appointment of Parajuli, the Ministry may have appointed him again by forcing him to resign.
"The court said in KC's case that ministerial appointments were not due process, Parajuli was also appointed by the minister," the official said, "If there was a case in that, the court should have been taken". So they asked Parajuli to resign, now that he is allowed to make ministerial decisions, he was appointed.
