With the aim of exporting meat to China, a campaign has been started to make Baglung a 'disease-free' district for animal husbandry. For that, a regular vaccination campaign has been conducted for a decade to make the district 'disease-free'.
Keshav Prasad Paudel, Animal Technical Officer of Veterinary Hospital and Animal Health Office, Baglung informed that no disease has been found in the 250,000 cattle in the district.
After the government agreed to export Nepal's cattle meat to China, Poudel said that the goal of completing that work in the first phase was delayed.
If the district is declared 'free from disease', he told that there is a plan to build a 'mega slaughterhouse' of cattle in Baglung and export it.
"Since Korla is a close district and disease-free, meat can be exported quickly," Poudel said, "For that reason, a padapadi expansion campaign has also been launched in Baglung."
He said that under the leadership of the local level and even the veterinary hospital, they are going to raise padapadis within 30 months and make them eligible for meat. The hospital has started preparations so that it can be exported alive if it is Khasiboka and meat if it is Padapadi.
For 10 years, it has been found that none of the animals in the district has been infected with diseases such as dysentery. Apart from that, the hospital has conducted a regular vaccination campaign against rabies in cattle. Similarly, sheep and goats are vaccinated against PPR, cholera and rabies in dogs and dogs are vaccinated against rabies. Even in the current year, a campaign to vaccinate 250,000 animals is being conducted.
Lately, Baglung has become self-sufficient in milk, meat and eggs. Some products are also being sold. At the rate of 91 liters per person per year, 20.3 million liters have been produced out of 27 million liters of milk required. Similarly, 3.9 million kg is being produced out of 3.6 million kg required for meat. In terms of eggs, 12 million tons are being produced annually. Senior Animal Development Officer Rishiram Sapkota said that the eggs are also sufficient in proportion to the population.
It is estimated that pada padi, which is currently distributed in Tarakhola, Badigad, Jaimini and Dhorpatan and other places for production and export, will increase young entrepreneurs, increase income and prevent migration abroad. Although there is a possibility to export meat from the country, Sapkota said that it has become a 'disease free' district and Baglung can benefit if it is close to Korla border.
In order to make the campaign successful, possible safe and organized slaughterhouses and collection centers are being searched for. He informed that there has been a demand for plans including lab management in the state and federal governments.
