Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising, has said that it is sad that the IPO of the hydropower project has been stopped.
In the interactive program of the Nepal Economic Journalists Association on 'Hydropower Project: Investment, Share Management and Challenges', he He said that the development of the hydropower sector is possible through the investment of the general public.
Ghising said that the authority has now signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the private sector's 12,000 MW hydropower project. Although Nepal's power generation capacity has reached 3500 megawatts, due to climate change, water flow decreases in winter. He said that only 1100 MW is being produced.
Ghising also said that the authority is in favor of opening 20 percent more PPA than that to supply 28 thousand 500 megawatts of electricity. He said that the authority has not opened PPA now because hydropower projects with PPAs could not go to the construction stage due to various reasons.
