Sanga-Dhulikhel road expansion, only 38 percent in two years

The expansion of the Sanga-Dhulikhel road section under the Araniko highway has been completed only 38 percent in two years. The road widening work was started two years ago to be completed within three years. Only 38 percent physical progress has been seen in two years, raising doubts about whether construction will be completed on time.

Sajna Adhikari, senior divisional engineer of Suryavinayak-Dhulikhel, Dhulikhel-Sindhuli-Bardibas road projects of the road department claims that work is being done to complete the extension within the stipulated time.

"Currently, work is being done to build drains, bus bays, sub-bases, bases on service roads," she said.

Culverts have been constructed at various places on the road section. The official said that 16 houses on the left and right sides of the Sanga-Dhulikhel road section under the highway should be removed.

While the project office is saying that they are working hard to complete the expansion work on time and there is no budget problem, the construction company that got the contract for the expansion, Lama Construction, has claimed that the budget has not been fully implemented by the government. It is said that the road widening work cannot be completed on time. Engineer Ravindra Shrestha of Lama Construction said that it is difficult to complete the work on time as the government is unable to provide a full budget.

Apart from the budget, Shrestha says that there are also difficulties in different places of the highway including water pipelines, sewerage, electricity wires.
