The business of Nepali paper, which is used in government affairs including offices and courts, has reached a crisis. Businessmen who have invested millions in the industry have said that they had to close the industry as the market for Nepali paper was not good. Harikumar Magar, who has been doing the business of Nepali handmade paper at Reshammarg in Banepa Municipality-10, said that the industry has closed down due to lack of market. His industry has been closed for a year and a half.

Harikumar, who opened Kanchan Nepali paper industry 14 years ago with the idea of ​​starting a business after reading news in a newspaper, said that the market has not been good in recent years. He says that since the business is not good after Corona, the production has also been reduced. He said that even though other businesses are getting tighter after Corona, this business has not been able to rise.

'This situation could not be sustained, the market is not good, taxes had to be paid, rent had to be paid, employees had to be paid,' he said. He had invested 25 lakh rupees in the industry. He says that he had to bear a loss of 1.5 million because the market was not good recently. 

Purushottam Paunju has been producing Nepali paper in friendship paper industry for 2 decades in Panauti-10 Khopasi. He said that although the business was good in the beginning, now the business is in crisis due to lack of market. The Nepali paper produced here is sent abroad through dealers in Kathmandu. "Now the dealer says that the market is not good," he said, "They said to produce less goods. Earlier, 600 kori were produced, now 500 are produced, even there, not all the goods have gone because there is no market." 

Pounju said that he was worried about doing business as there were about 200 copies of paper in stock. The raw material is transported from Dolakha, it had to be processed, the workers had to be paid, but not all of the products went to the market. That's why the business is at a standstill. He is worried about how to continue it. As the market is not good, he thinks to produce less next year. 

Industries are registered but not in contact

There is no definite information about where and how much Nepali paper industry is registered across the district. It seems that only 3 Nepali paper industries have been registered so far in the data of the Office of Industry and Commerce. It appears in the details of the registered office of Ganesh Nepali Kagaz Udyog Pvt. The office said that the industry did not renew after registration and is currently not in contact. 

Former Panauti-12, Ugratara Hadakeshwar is registered in Nepali Kagaz Udyog 2061 in the data of the office. But the office says that the industry is not in contact after the registration. Even though Nepal Paper Industry was registered in 2063 in the former Banepa-5, the office has said that it has not been in contact yet. 

Office head Sitaram Pokharel says that if the industry is registered through other organizations and the branch office is operating, it will not be mentioned in the registration list of this office. He said that even though Nepali paper is multi-purpose, its market is not good, even the registered industry may have been closed. As compared to normal paper, Nepali paper is a little more expensive, so he thinks that such industries may have been closed due to lack of consumption.
