Farmers are worried because Reliance Sugar Mill in Baraka is not able to order sugarcane cutting. At present, when the water dries up in the sugarcane fields during winter, the farmers are in a hurry to deliver the sugarcane to the mill due to the fear that the rats will cause damage and the weight may decrease due to drying by the sun. But the sugarcane of the farmer has been left in the field after the mill did not give the cutting order (Challan Purji) to the farmer as much as he wanted.
About 7,000 farmers of Bara and Parsa planted about 4,000 bigha of sugarcane, but not even half of it has been harvested. But the mill administration has said that there is a problem in giving the cutting order after the farmers do not clean the sugarcane and bring it to the mill forcefully without the cutting order.
'Now, on the one hand, as it is the season for planting new sugarcane, the farmers are trying to clear the fields quickly. On the other hand, the farmers are afraid that there may be a decrease in weight because the cutting order is not enough, the sun and rats damage the sugarcane in the field,'' said Indradev Kuswaha, 55 years old from Vidyanagar village, Kalaiya sub-metropolitan city-16. Although the crossing was duly started on November 2, the crossing was started only two weeks later due to Gadhimai Mela. The aim of the mill is to take 30 lakh quintals of sugarcane from around 7000 farmers in a period of three months.
Awadh Jha, the mill's 'can' manager, who has taken 1.7 lakh quintals of sugarcane and crushed it, said, "There is a problem with the cutting order when the farmers do not follow the rules of the mill." The problem is happening to those who are bringing sugarcane to the mill without their consent.'
Farmers forcibly brought their sugarcane to the 'yard' (weighing place) in other tractors, carts, etc. Some of the farmers are delivering the sugarcane directly to the mill without getting the cutting order based on personal access. "Even the mill administration is surprised by this problem," Jha said.
Half of the sugarcane crushing period of this season has passed. With half the time remaining, the government has not decided the subsidy amount to be given to the farmers. Last year, the subsidy was fixed at the rate of Rs 70 per quintal. The government has increased the price of last year by Rs 20 per quintal and fixed the support price of Rs 585 per quintal this year. But the grant is not specified. Last year it was Rs 565 per quintal.
Kalaiya sub-metropolitan 24 In order to give sugarcane to Reliance Sugar and Chemical Industries in Sripur, around 7,000 farmers have cultivated sugarcane in nearly 4,000 bighas this year in Bara and Parsa. Sugarcane seeds, subsidies, lack of fertilizers, high prices are reducing many sugarcane farmers. Farmer Vishwanath Yadav of Simraungarh Municipality 11 Bhagwanpur said that improved seeds are still in short supply.
