Due to infrastructure expansion, Tribhuvan International Airport, which has been operating only for 14 hours since last November, will be operating for 16 hours from next Saturday. The airport, which was earlier closing at 10 pm, will close at 11 pm from Saturday and open at 7 am.

The airport has been operating only for 14 hours since October 23 as the runway had to be closed for the construction of infrastructure such as international apron, parallel taxi, hangar etc. After the reduction in flight time, the flights from 10 pm to 2 am and from 6 am to 8 am were reduced and moved earlier.

Earlier, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal had issued a notam to halt flights from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am till March 18, and proceeded with the work of three different projects inside the airport.

According to Engineer Dipendra Shrestha, Director of the Air Transport Capacity Enhancement Project at Sinamangal, the flight time has been increased by two hours with the completion of the complex work connected with the runway. According to him, 40 percent of the physical work of all the three projects operating within the airport has been completed.

After 2026, infrastructure expansion has been started at Tribhuvan International Airport with the goal of serving nearly 10 million passengers annually.

For that, three projects are being conducted under the airport expansion. Under the first project, the international apron and the taxi-way connecting the apron with the runway to the north are being constructed with a joint investment of 7 billion by the Government of Nepal and the Civil Aviation Authority.

Under the second project, the infrastructure for the hangar is being built. In the eastern part of the airport, a hangar area is being constructed for the Nepalese Army, Nepal Air Service Corporation, Yeti Airlines, Shree Airlines, etc. at a cost of around 4 billion rupees. Asian Development Bank has 78% loan investment in this while the remaining 22% amount will be borne by the authority. Third, parallel to the runway

is a taxi-way construction project. It is estimated that it will cost 4 billion rupees.
