The 'Conference on Clean Energy Transformation for Sustainable and Low Carbon Based Economy' organized by Alternative Energy Promotion Center on the occasion of International Clean Energy Day has ended. The conference issued a seven-point 'Kathmandu Manifesto' for commitment to sustainable development, dealing with the effects of climate change and developing a low-carbon economy.
Accelerating renewable energy into energy conversion, doubling the rate of energy efficiency, strengthening climate adaptation and resilience, promoting investment in the renewable energy sector, increasing international aid, increasing public awareness and capacity through research and development and the latest technology, and transparent monitoring and A manifesto has been issued to encourage evaluation.
The United Nations has declared January 26th every year since 2024 as 'International Clean Energy Day' with the aim of 'raising awareness for the just and inclusive transformation of clean energy that benefits the earth and the human and all living creatures living on the earth' and conducting activities accordingly. The conference was organized in the context of the announcement of the celebration. At the
conference, Energy Minister Khadka said that the government has proceeded in a planned manner to develop a low-carbon economy by making energy development sustainable and inclusive. He said that the topics covered by the conference are in line with the goals of the 'Energy Development Roadmap and Action Plan, 2081', which was recently approved and implemented by the Nepalese government. According to him, emphasis should be placed on the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency by mobilizing the latest financial resources including climate finance and green bonds.
Energy Ministry Secretary Sarita Dawadi said that renewable energy and energy efficiency have been given high priority in the government's energy policy, strategy and periodical plans. Secretary of Water and Energy Commission Madhu Prasad Vetuwal said that the conference will identify sectoral needs, opportunities and challenges, prioritize investable projects and create opportunities for investment and resource mobilization for clean energy transformation. Navraj Dhakal, the executive director of the center, said that since it is the main body working in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency of the government, it has made a significant contribution to increase access to energy, energy mix and energy security.
At the
conference, there was an interaction between the stakeholders to exchange experience and investment opportunities in order to speed up the transformation of clean energy that will help in the development of sustainable and low carbon based economy in Nepal. In addition, five technical sessions were held to formulate the necessary strategy.
