After 5 years, the expansion of the Butwal-Gorusinge 50 km road under the East-West Highway has started. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli laid the foundation stone of Butwal-13 Jitgarhi through virtual means of Butwal to Gorusinge road extension on Friday. According to the project, the expansion work has started with the laying of the foundation stone.

Prime Minister Oli said that the highway expansion will be completed within three years. "The condition of completing tunnels, administrative buildings and roads on time and the people will get their rewards," he said, "we have made a lot of progress in the development of the country." Infrastructure Minister Devendra Dahal, Lumbini Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song were also present. They also addressed in the program and asked the builders to build the road in the stipulated time so that the citizens do not suffer.

The road from Butwal to Chandrauta of the East-West Highway, which was built in the year 2019 during the reign of King Mahendra, was initially expanded to two lanes in 2035/36. The 69-kilometer road will now be expanded to 4 lanes at a cost of 2750 million US dollars (about 35 billion) with loan support from the Asian Development Bank. In the first phase, about 50 kilometers of road construction has started from Butwal to Gorusinge.

Chinese construction company Shanxi Construction Engineering Group Corporation and Chitwan's Ashish Nirman Seva JV have signed an agreement for the expansion. The work will be done by Ashish Construction Services. The 19 km Gorusinge-Chandrauta section will be constructed in the second phase.

In the Butwal to Gorusinge section, marking of trees, management of electric poles, construction of a lab for soil, stone, gravel and sand testing, management of large machines and materials, and road surveying, the foundation stone was laid on Friday.
