Nepal Oil Corporation's Far Western Regional Office, fuel depot at Dhangadhi is now going to be shifted. From the point of view of security, the fuel depot, which is a high risk, is about to be transferred to Kailali. Dhangadhi depot built for 4 vehicles in the year 2037 is now operating outside the safety standards. Dhangadhi Depot operating on 1 Bigha 8 Kattha is beyond the safety standards due to its area.
The corporation said that since the houses of common people are also connected with the depot, it is inevitable to transfer the depot to other places.
The depot of Dhangadhi is operating beyond the safety standards. There is no doubt that the depot should be moved. The matter has been raised for this for 5/7 years," Pradeep Kumar Yadav, Head of Storage Capacity Enhancement Project, said at a press conference held on Wednesday at Sinamangal Air Fuel Depot in Kathmandu, "After many efforts, land has been found in Godavari Municipality of Kailali. 9 distant districts should be paid.'
After the public complained about the risk from the depot located in Dhangadhi, the corporation asked for 22 bighas out of 74 bighas of land in the name of National Housing Company located in Punarwas 3 and 6 of Kanchanpur district. But due to the land dispute between the municipality and the company, there is no condition to build it. After that, the corporation found the land of Attaria in Kailali suitable among various places.
The depot to be built in Dhangadhi will mainly supply 9 districts, and they had to look for land for the depot. It had to be kept away from the border. After looking at all the areas, Attaria in Kailali was the best," Yadav said, "Purchase is done according to the Land Acquisition Act." The depot built in the year 2037 is 1 bigha 8 katta. The capacity of this depot is only 2,890 kiloliters. Of this, petrol 830 kiloliters, diesel 1590 kiloliters, kerosene 70 kiloliters and water tank 400 kiloliters capacity. Now the demand is increasing. There is a settlement around the depot.
The depot is next to a dense settlement. As it is not able to cope with the commercial demand, it is about to be shifted to Attaria in Kailali,' said Yadav. The land identified by the corporation to build a new depot has been connected with East-West Highway located in Godavari Municipality-8 of Kailali. Since the depot has put the settlement at risk, the common people have been demanding to move the depot. Industry, Commerce and Supply Minister Damodar Bhandari has also instructed the Corporation to move the depot. On the special initiative of Minister Bhandari, Corporation Board Chairman Gobind Bahadur Karki and Corporation Executive Director Chandika Bhatt, the transfer of Dhangadhi Depot, increase in storage capacity and construction of a new smart depot is going to be done.
The new depot to be built at Attaria in Kailali will have a capacity of 1,800 kiloliters of petrol, 6,600 kiloliters of diesel, and 500 kiloliters of kerosene. Yadav said that a smart depot with a total capacity of 11,900 kiloliters will be constructed with a water tank of 3,000 kiloliters capacity. It is expected that the decision to acquire the land will be made soon by the board of directors of the corporation and the council of ministers of the government. With the decision of the Council of Ministers, it is expected that the land acquisition will be completed by the government by March 2081,'' said Yadav, "After that, the foundation stone of DPR and depot construction will be laid in the first week of April 2082, and we will bring the new smart depot into operation from April 2084." Its total estimated cost is expected to be 3.5 billion.
