Food Management and Trading Company Limited Jumla has started purchasing marsi paddy. The process of buying Marsi paddy has started at Rs 12,000 per quintal.
The local procurement committee under the chairmanship of Chief District Officer Ram Bahadur Shahi has fixed the price at which Marsi paddy can be purchased at Rs 120 per kg.
District Agricultural Development Office, Agricultural Research Center, Industry and Commerce Association and the information officer of Food Management and Business Company Limited, Lakshman Sharma informed that the price of rice is fixed by adjusting the prices of local customs.
The purchase department of the company had already sent a letter to carry out the purchase of Marsi paddy on October 23. There is confusion as to whether Marsi rice will be available according to the standards set by the procurement department. "It is in the interest of the farmers to set a purchase quota for marsi rice," said information officer Sharma, "It has become a matter of concern whether the marsi rice will be available according to the standards set by the purchase department." The team is deployed . Based on the report of the team, the farmers will reach their doorsteps and the work of purchasing paddy will proceed . Farmers are happy that Marsi paddy can be sold at home.
Farmers who have been selling Marsi rice at 170 rupees per kg are very excited to sell rice . The procurement department has set criteria for buying Marsi paddy that moisture should be 18 percent, extraneous matter should not be mixed more than 2 percent, damaged grains should not be found more than 5 percent and impurities should not be more than 8 percent.
Information officer Sharma said that rice should be fit for human consumption if it is free from live insects, clean, undamaged, and has no undesirable smell. "We haven't found it in Marsi paddy yet," he said, "now we are confused whether to buy it or not." The technical team has been mobilized in the village. He also said that there should be no mixing of dirt, stones, soil, sand and organic matter.
'Wherever Marsi rice is cultivated, there are preparations to buy rice from that place . A circular has been issued to all the eight local levels of the district for the purchase of Marsi paddy. In fact, a purchase agreement has already been signed in Sinja Rural Municipality,' said Information Officer Sharma, 'Sinja could not provide rice according to the standard. We could not raise the paddy . Neither the contract has been canceled nor has it been implemented.'
When purchasing a quintal of rice, 65 kg of rice should be purchased. But the farmers are saying that due to the current situation, there is very less rice. Farmers are angry that they are hesitating to buy rice even when the quota comes. Local Ratan Bahadur Rawat requested to purchase marsi paddy according to the quota. He said, "Purchase of Marsi rice based on quality and promotion of Marsi rice should be emphasized."
In recent times, the production has decreased after the disease outbreak in Marsi rice started to increase . According to the data of Agriculture Development Office Jumla, only 1200 hectares of Marsi rice are cultivated while rice is cultivated in 2950 hectares.
Agricultural experts have been saying that since the use of herbicides in rice, the quality of Marsi rice has not been produced due to the old seeds. "For the marketing and promotion of Marsi paddy, the company has started purchasing quotas," said Sharma, "Farmers should also be able to provide Marsi paddy according to the same standard."
