The government has increased the fare of public transport. With the agreement of the ministerial level of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, the fare of public transport operating in interprovince has been increased. According to the Transport Management Department, the fares of passenger and cargo vehicles have been adjusted.
Passenger vehicle fares have been increased by 3.30 percent on the previous fare. Freight vehicles operating on mountain roads have been increased by 0.81 percent and freight vehicles operating on Terai by 0.05 percent. Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Devendra Dahal had given consent to the department on December 11 to increase the fare. Accordingly, the department has published a list with rental rates.
Earlier the fare was adjusted on 31 July 2080. Rajeev Pokharel, director general of the department, said that the fare was adjusted based on various 13 indicators of fare determination.
'The fare rate has to be adjusted automatically every March,' said Pokharel, 'It has been about two years without adjustment, now it has been decided to adjust.' Pokharel says that the decision to adjust has been reached after discussion.
"The new fare rate has been implemented keeping in mind the price increase in the main indicators including workers' wages, fuel, tires, interest, operating expenses, deductions," said the notice issued by the department. Transport businessmen have been demanding fare adjustment. The notification states that the new fare will be applicable on all interprovincial, short, medium and long distance public transport routes. Apart from this, public vehicles with deluxe and super deluxe facilities can charge up to 20 percent of the total fare. And, for this, the department stated that there is a provision that deluxe facilities should be mentioned in the blue book.
