Industries operating in the Parsa-Bara industrial corridor have recently been hit by unannounced load shedding and tripping. Due to lack of regular supply of electricity, industries in the corridor are operating at a much lower capacity than their fixed capacity.
According to Birgunj Industry and Commerce Association, equipment and raw materials of industries are deteriorating due to increasing power cuts and lack of quality electricity. Anil Agarwal, president of the association, said that this had a negative impact on the production process as well.
"While the industries of the industrial corridor are facing various problems, the industries have become more distressed when they have to face the problem of power cuts," Chairman Agarwal said, "Production has decreased. Industrial equipment and raw materials are also damaged.' According to
industrialists, the cost of production has also increased due to having to run the industry with generators (DG sets) during power cuts. As a result, products are losing their competitiveness in the market. According to the association, the small industries are not able to operate DG sets during power cuts, so the industry has to be closed.
Likewise, the industrial feeders located in the industrial corridor are being tripped about 14/15 times in 24 hours, so the industrial equipment is getting damaged. Raw materials are also being damaged. Hari Gautam, senior vice president of the association, said that it is as essential as raw materials for the power industry. Due to lack of sufficient electricity, the production is decreasing, the production price has increased,' he said, 'employees and workers have not been able to be employed.' . 'Unable to expand the capacity of the transmission line, even in July, Gautam said, 'There is no policy to develop the industrial sector.'
350 Gautam said that the capacity of the old transmission line is still only 175 megawatts. Since there is a problem in electricity supply every year in winter, the association has also drawn the attention of the relevant bodies for its long-term solution. Agrawal, the president of the association, said that the association demanded to supply quality electricity during the rest of the time to solve the problem of load shedding. Agarwal said.
Awadhesh Dubey, head of Nepal Electricity Authority Birgunj, says that there is a problem of line cutting when the load is not reached during the 'peak' time. He said that sometimes there is a problem of tripping in the morning and evening (peak time) when domestic demand increases.
The LDC (Load Dispatch Center) cuts the power when the supply load is not reached. "Earlier, 150 megawatts of electricity was supplied through Raxaul in India," said Dubey, the head of Birganj authority, "Now the electricity is not exactly coming from India, some power plants were also damaged during the drought. As a result, the demand for electricity has not been met.
In winter, the flow of the river also decreases. "In the evening and morning when domestic demand increases, there are some problems in industrial feeders," said Dubey.
