The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the Upper Arun Hydropower Project has been approved. The Ministry of Forests and Environment has informed that the EIA has been approved on 19th of January, giving priority to the Upper Arun project.

The total cost of the hydropower project located in Bhotekhola of Sankhuwasabha is 2 trillion 14 billion rupees. The total electricity capacity of Upper Arun is 1 thousand 63.36 MW. This project, which is a transformative project in the country's energy sector, is the second largest hydropower project so far.

The Ministry has already passed the decision to use 21.084 hectares of land for this project. Forest Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri has been giving instructions to resolve any legal entanglement in any development project immediately.

According to this, the ministry has said that it is moving forward with the files of development projects, national pride and national priority projects.
