Why isn't Tiktok in the option to register a complaint about social media?

A year ago, the government introduced a facility to register complaints about social media online. Users can register their complaints through the 'social media related complaints management' platform on the website of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. However, this platform has only Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and other options within the 'Types of Social Networks'.

Users can register a complaint about Tiktok by selecting 'other', but why is Tiktok itself not included in the option, which has a significant user base in Nepal?

Tiktok, a video sharing platform that has been re-launched after a one-year ban, has been organizing various awareness programs in Nepal recently. A few weeks ago, when announcing its 'Safety Ambassador Program', a representative of Tiktok requested to report any harmful content found on the platform immediately. For this, the Nepal government has also created a means of registering complaints and Tiktok said that they will immediately address the complaints received from it.

Imad Zafar, the global communications representative of ByteDance, the parent company of Ticket, who came to Nepal for the event, specifically encouraged users and TikTok content creators to report harmful content. "The government of Nepal has created its own channel so that users can report harmful content that may appear on Tiktok, the government sends us the report received there and we have a special team to manage that content," he said, "the report feature on our app or the complaint registration of the government of Nepal. I request everyone to make good use of the channel.'' Not found . After clicking on the 'Social Network Grievance Registration' option in the hidden icon on the menu of the Ministry of Communication website, select the 'Type of Social Network' in the new page that opens. It does not include Tik Tok option . Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and other options are mentioned. Users can register a complaint by clicking on 'Other'. The spelling of Instagram and LinkedIn on the website of the Ministry of Information Technology has also been wrong for a year .

Tiktok was banned in Nepal when the ministry started a system where complaints can be registered online from January last year. That's why TikTok was not included in the 'complaint registration' platform at that time. Even though it has been three months since the ban on Tiktok was lifted, the Ministry and the responsible unit have not paid attention to this issue.

After Kantipur inquired about this matter, the Ministry has now committed to include Tik Tok in the 'Types of Social Networks' within the 'Social Network Complaint Registration' option on its website . "This was a missing topic, we will include it now," said Bastola, the coordinator of the social media management unit, "it will be improved."
