One and a half years have passed since the inauguration of the cargo train service from Bathnaha to Integrated Checkpoint (ICP) of Biratnagar in India. Cargo train has not been operated since the inauguration.

Businessmen hoped that with the operation of cargo, the cost of expensive transportation freight could be reduced. However, since the service has not yet started, the hopes of businessmen are limited to hope. 

It was estimated that while transporting industrial raw materials by cargo train from Kolkata to Biratnagar ICP, it would cost around two rupees per kg. This is about 40 percent less than the transportation costs of trucks and containers. 

Bathnaha-Viratnagar Cargo Rail: Inaugurated, not operational According to the agreement between the government of Nepal and India to operate an 18.7 km cargo train service from Bathnaha in Bihar to Kathari in Morang in the year 2061, in the first phase, a 7.6 km railway line has been constructed from Bathnaha to Nepal's customs yard at ICP in Biratnagar.

Bathnaha-Viratnagar Cargo Rail: Inaugurated, not operational On 18th June 2080, the then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated the cargo train in New Delhi.

Bathnaha-Viratnagar Cargo Rail: Inaugurated, not operational 90 percent of the raw materials coming to the Sunsari Morang Industrial Corridor are being imported from Kolkata port in India.  Daily about  More than 300 trucks and containers enter Nepal.
