Festivals in Madhyapur Thimi, Sauraha and Pokhara during the New Year

Thinking of going somewhere during English New Year 2025? If you haven't made any plans, get ready to visit Sauraha, Pokhara or Bhaktapur. The Madhyapur Festival in Thimima in Bhaktapur, the Street Festival in Lakeside in Pokhara and the Elephant Tourism Festival in Sauraha in Chitwan are being held around English New Year with the aim of increasing domestic tourism.

Historical processions, dances, old currency and coin exhibitions are being held in Madhyapur Thimima for three days from December 12. Tourism should be made a partner of local development. Madhyapur Mahotsav-2081 is being organized with the concept that the economy can be made more dynamic by connecting local heritage with employment and income,' said city chief Surendra Shrestha.

Shrestha says that various programs such as Va Mahotsav, Dhimebaja competition, flute playing competition, bhajan singing competition etc. have brought the city to the eyes of internal and external tourists. "We are organizing the Madhyapur festival in this scenario and concept," he said.

The 18th Elephant and Tourism Festival will be held in Chitwan from December 11 to 15. Organizers of the festival, which will be held at the intersection of Baghmara Intermediate Community Forest in Ratnanagar, are the organizers of Regional Hotel Association Nepal, Chitwan, United Elephant Operation Cooperative and Restaurant and Bar Association Nepal.  80 elephants will participate in various activities of the

festival, both privately run and government owned. The elephant festival, which started in 2055, was stopped for three years due to the outbreak of the Corona epidemic. Organizers claim that the festival will be held in Sauraha, which is in the lap of Chitwan National Park, the first national park of Nepal listed in the World Heritage List.

Organizers say that the festival, which has been organized for two decades, has succeeded in increasing tourist arrivals in Chitwan, including Sauraha. It is also said that there is an increase in the arrival of tourists by 25 to 30 percent every year due to the festival.

A street festival is being held for 5 days from January 13 to welcome the English New Year in Pokhara's lakeside area. The festival is being held with the slogan 'Let's eat on the streets, dance on the streets and have fun on the streets'. The festival includes cultural programs of various ethnicities, original costumes, tableaux, national and international food, live concert, boat race, waiter race, tug of war, masham, sausage eating competition, local products, handicrafts and paintings and sculptures and restaurants. General Secretary of Bar Association Birendra Sherchan said.

He said that foreigners will come by chartering a ship from China to participate in the boat race in Fewa Lake this year as well.
