The government has registered the Watercraft (Operation and Management) Bill in the National Assembly. The Bill contains provisions regarding determination of waterway route, permission and use. The provisions of the ship office, service operation, registration, ownership of ships, providing certificates of nationality to ships, using the flag of Nepal are included in the bill.

The proposed new law will replace the three laws related to ships made in the year 2027, the Act on the flag of commercial vessels of Nepal, the Vessel Registration Act and the Nepal Vessels (Certificates and Logbook) Act.

After the new law, it is expected that the operation of watercraft in internal waterways will be organized and the operation of Nepali flagged watercraft in the sea will be possible.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has mentioned in the bill that since the old law came into force, dozens of international conventions have been implemented and those provisions were not covered by the old law.

It has been said in the bill that new laws are needed for the regulation and management of vessels of various capacities in various rivers and lakes within Nepal.

KP Sharma Oli, when he was the Prime Minister last time, announced the plan to run a ship in Nepal. When Oli was the Prime Minister, on February 2, 2075, a ship office was established in a secluded corner of Lalitpur.

has been satirizing the discussion of ships in a landlocked country. Prime Minister Oli has been explaining it by connecting it with the development and prosperity of the country.
