TwinOtter aircraft of Tara Air has started Nepalgunj-Tikapur-Nepalgunj flight from Sunday. According to Nepalgunj Airport Chief Summat Prasad Choudhary, Tara's TwinOtter reached Tikapur with 11 passengers and 3 airline employees from Nepalgunj at 1:27 pm on Sunday. From Tikapur, the plane returned to Nepalgunj with 16 passengers and three employees.
According to Nepalgunj Airport, this route took 18 minutes to go from Twin Otter and 20 minutes to return. The crew flew at an altitude of 6,500 feet on the way out and 5,500 feet on the way back according to visual flight rules (VFR).
The Civil Aviation Authority has allowed Tara Air to fly from Nepalgunj to Tikapur on Sundays and Thursdays. According to the authority, Tara has been given flight permission for the first phase from November 30 to December 16. According to the authority, the one-way fare on this route is Rs. 3600.
The TwinOtter aircraft of Nepal Airlines Corporation conducted a test flight at Tikapur Airport, which has been closed for 27 years, on November 12. Tara Air also had a charter flight on the same day. State Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Arun Choudhary, who was on Sunday's flight, said that Tikapur Municipality has ensured 15 seats on each flight on this route.
According to him, since Kathmandu-Nepalgunj-Tikapur connecting passengers will be in partnership with Tara and Yeti Airlines, tickets are being sold and distributed accordingly. One-way air fare from Kathmandu to Tikapur is fixed at 9 thousand rupees. This airport, which has been in operation since 2041, was closed since 1953 during the conflict.
Before that, Nepal Airlines Corporation's TwinOtter operated a regular flight from Sanfebagar in Achham. According to the Minister of State Chowdhury, the passengers from villages around Tikapur and Bardia will benefit from this route. He said that this flight will also increase the number of tourists going to Karnali River and Bardia National Park.
