The construction of the railway track from Wagmati to Dhansar river in the west towards Rautahat of the Mechi-Mahakali electric railway project is in the final stage. However, the work has not been able to proceed since the dispute over the compensation of private land in three places between Ailani and one has not been resolved for 2 years.

Kiran Karki, the head of the project's Sarlahi office, said that the residents of Ailani land near Wagmati to West Chandi River have demanded compensation. Those who live in Ilani land do not have documents. There is no rule to give compensation to them without spare parts," he said, "However, they have obstructed the work by asking for compensation. We are waiting for the above instructions.'

Chief Karki informed that there is also a dispute over the compensation of about 100 meters of Ailani land near Lamaha river. Similarly, a local of Santapur area has also refused to accept the decision saying that the compensation is less than customary, due to which the project has not progressed in that area as well.

Saroj Chaudhary, a resident of Chandi area, said that he should get compensation for the land he has been occupying for a long time. He alleges that the land in the name of the railway is being usurped in order to uproot the squatters. "The government must provide some kind of relief," he said, "otherwise we will not allow the work to proceed." However, the contractors have not started work in these areas since the locals have not allowed to work until they are paid. Under the project, 5 packages of tracks and culverts are being constructed in the Rautahat section. Roshan Kumar Shrestha JV, Santoshi Contact, Lumbini Apex, Khani, Hindung Thokar and Golden Plant have bagged the construction contract. It is mentioned in the contract that all the packages should be completed on 14th January 2078. But due to various reasons, the contractor company has not completed the work on time.  According to the

project, more than 80 percent of the track opening work at Rautahat has been completed. There is a problem of compensation for the land in packages 1, 2 and 4 towards Rautahat. Although the goal of the project is to be able to work by next February, the problem of compensation has to extend another deadline. Chief Karki said that due to the compensation, the work could not be done on time.

The length of Mechi-Mahakali electric railway is 945 km. A 22 km track is planned to be constructed from Wagmati in Rautahat to Dhansar, the border area of Bara. The contract for one package in Rautahat area is worth around Rs 70 crore. The construction company has to work on railway gravel, soil, base, bridge, box culvert and greenery. The contractor has started work since July 2076.
