52.66 million rupees have been received in Khotang this year from the export of cardamom. Farmers have sold cardamom at a rate of 86-87 thousand rupees.
Premkumar Rai, District President of the Federation of Cardamom Traders said that the highest amount of Rs. Rai informed that 110 million 31 million in Khotehang Rural Municipality, 60 million 90 million in Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality, 40 million 31 million in Ainselukhark Rural Municipality, 40 million 30 million in Sakela Rural Municipality, 20 million 9 million in Jantedhunga Rural Municipality and 20 million 8 million in Diprung Chuichumma Rural Municipality.
He said that even though cardamom production has decreased by 40 percent this year compared to the previous year, the farmers are relieved to get the price. Last year cardamom was bought and sold for 60-62 thousand rupees. This year, on an average, Pratiman was bought and sold at 86-87 thousand rupees, although the production decreased, the farmers were relieved to get the price, he said.
This year, Khotang's cardamom has been sold for up to 1 lakh 5 thousand rupees, he says. The cardamom produced in Khotang reaches the international market through Jhapa. Harinarayan Rai, Head of Agricultural Knowledge Center Khotang, said that 13,550 cardamoms were produced in the district this year. Cardamom is produced on 1,64 hectares of land in the district.
