The study of the flood-damaged BP highway has reached its final stage. According to the road department, the study report will come within a week and a half at the most. There is a budget problem to start construction immediately.

Ramhari Pokharel, Director General of the Road Department, said that the request for the budget from the Disaster Management Fund of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority under the Ministry of Home Affairs is being discussed. "After consultation with the Ministry of Finance, the demand is being discussed with the authority," he said. "The decision has not been made."

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is the chairman of the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management. As Prime Minister Oli and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel expressed interest in this matter, it was discussed about starting the construction from the authority's fund budget. The cost has not been finalized as the final report of the study is yet to come. "During the study, if something needs to be added to the structure design, we have suggested it when we reach the field," Pokharel said, "so we will know how much it will cost only after the final report comes."

Director General Pokharel informed that they are preparing to build with sustainable structures so that vehicles can run in the coming monsoon. A budget has also been requested to improve alternative roads so that they can be used in dry season. That is an alternative route, Bhakundebesi – Mechhepauwa – Narayanthan – Sindhulitar to Nepalthok. After that, the road will be connected to BP highway through Sitkha bridge through Madhyapahari highway,'' he said.

In the preliminary study, it is estimated that the construction of the BP highway will cost around 7 billion rupees. "Through this, road construction and necessary infrastructure will be built," Pokharel said, "We will proceed with the construction only after securing the resources." He said that it is a big challenge to run the BP highway in the dry season and we should prepare accordingly from now. "We have not talked to any donor agency for the construction. We will start the construction process after the study is completed," he said.

Pokharel says that the construction will be started within three years. "We don't have a problem to go into construction after the study is completed," he said, "for that we need source assurance first."

Then it will take three months to complete the contract process, he said. "The plan is to start the work within May," he said.

The 12 km road of Kavrevanjang-Nepalthok section has been damaged by the landslide that occurred from October 10 to 12. Its 8.7 km stretch of road has been washed away by the Roshi river. At present, temporary diversions have been made and the means of transport have been operated. But due to the high volume of traffic, there is a problem of traffic jam every day. More than 7 thousand vehicles pass through this road every day. Due to the one-way traffic in difficult sections, there are more traffic jams. There are preparations to build bridges to straighten the road where there are various difficulties and problems.

There is a problem on the road from Chowkidanda to Mulkot in Kavre. There is more problem in Chowkidanda to Nepalthok section. The flood caused less damage in the Sindhuli section and more damage in the Kavre section. Under the BP highway, 158 km from Dhulikhel in Kavre to Bardibas in Mahottari has been constructed with the help of the Japanese government. It took about 20 years to build. The construction of this road was started in 1996 and completed in 2015 and handed over to Nepal by Japan to connect the capital with Eastern Terai.
