The export of sanitary pads will be stopped again from the 17th of January. The export of pads has been stopped because the Indian agency BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) has mandated quality certificates for all imported sanitary pads.

India made BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) mandatory a year ago to protect the domestic industry. From October 1, BIS was mandatory for pads and baby diapers exported from other countries to India.

With the implementation of BIS, pads and baby diapers exported from Nepal were also stopped. Soon after, India issued a notification on October 23 and extended the deadline for two months, saying that it would come into effect from January 1. A year ago, the industrialist of Nepal had also registered an application with BIS in India. Inspection team from BIS would come to monitor the industry, conduct a 'factory audit'. But the industrialists say that the situation has not come. 

Even though the inspection team from BIS has come to monitor the industry, it will take time to complete the additional process, but again sanitary pads  Punit Sharda, CEO of Jasmine Hygiene Products said that exports will be stopped. It is not decided whether the industry will come from India for a visit, even if it comes, the process will take 2/3 months,' he said, 'Even if the BIS team comes/does not come for the visit, the pad export will be stopped.'

He said that the export of sanitary pads will not stop only if India extends the deadline again. "We are also talking to the Indian side, they have said that they are positive about it, but they have not decided to come on the visit," he said.

In the first four months of the last financial year, pads worth 12 million 65 lakh 67 thousand rupees were exported. Compared to that, pad exports have decreased in the same period of the current fiscal year. In the first four months of the current fiscal year  Pads worth 77.77 lakh 64 thousand rupees have been exported.

In the first four months of the current financial year  Sanitary pads worth 46 million 18 lakh 54 thousand rupees have been imported in Nepal. According to the customs department, pads have been imported from India, China, Israel, Hong Kong and Britain and Austria in the last four months. Although pads are imported from various countries, they are exported only to India from Nepal.

In the financial year 080/081, 150 million 44 lakh 69 thousand 1 pads worth 4187 million 2 thousand rupees were exported, while 213 million 2229 pads worth 1 billion 33 million 84 lakh 23 thousand rupees were imported. was

In the financial year 079/080, 100 million 29 million 24 thousand 75 pads worth 91 million 79 million 20 thousand were imported and 5 million million 35 million 12 thousand 666 million were exported. 

In the financial year 078/079, 129194 thousand 721 pads of 1 billion 113 million 14 thousand were imported and 19 million 30 thousand 264 of 351 million 56 thousand were exported.

In the fiscal year 077/078, there is a data of the customs department that 1.177 million 82 thousand 1.738 thousand 850 kg and 3.57 million 13 thousand 490 pads were imported. In that year, 84 thousand 979 kg and 177 thousand 200 pads worth 1 crore 61 lakh 49 thousand rupees were exported to India.
