In the Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the chairman will be elected again through direct elections. The amended statute prepared by the federation working committee on June 24 will be implemented after the special general meeting held on Tuesday passed it unanimously.
The legislation passed by the General Assembly will come into force after approval by the Council of Ministers. In the previous constitution, there was a provision that the senior vice-president of the federation would automatically become the president.
The special general meeting has also arranged that the tenure of the working committee will be two years, there will be a woman vice president, the senior vice president and the women vice president will be selected by the executive committee, and there will be two vice presidents for the district/city. The General Assembly has decided to directly elect the current Senior Vice President Anjan Shrestha as the President after his term ends. "After the term of the current senior vice president Anjan Shrestha's term as president ends, the 2-year term will come into effect and the next president will be elected through direct elections," said Federation President Chandra Prasad Dhakal.
Even before, the proposal of the chairman through direct election could not be passed due to disputes among the members. Chairman Dhakal said that this time the constitution of the Federation was unanimously passed by the special general meeting. "There was no dispute, the legislation was passed unanimously," he said, "This unanimous decision has sent a good message." The executive committee will select the senior vice president of that executive committee. Earlier, there was a direct election of the senior vice president. The Federation Executive Committee proposed to have two senior vice-presidents. The General Assembly has passed the current arrangement of having one senior. In the amended constitution, there is a provision to have a woman vice-president . However, there should be 12 monthly members in the executive committee for women vice-presidents.
'There will be a female vice-president in the Federation,' President Dhakal said, 'A female vice-president will be elected only if there are 12 female members in the executive committee and the female vice-president will be selected by the executive committee.' The federation has stated that there is no vice president. Similarly, the federation has arranged for 2 vice-presidents for the district/city. Previously, there was only one vice president from the district/city.
Although the selection of the president through direct election is after one term, the federation also stated that the arrangement regarding the representation of the remaining associates and women from the objective side will be implemented from the next election. "On the one hand, we have started a new system where women must be represented in various positions, including one in the vice president," said Dhakal, "the provision of directly electing the president will help to lead a capable person." Among the 19 members, 2 women are mandatory. The federation had tried to amend the constitution before. Previously, the process of electing the president through direct election was proposed by forming a separate legislative amendment committee under the coordination of former president Chandiraj Dhakal and Kush Kumar Joshi, but it could not be passed. Although the president of the Federation has been elected through direct elections since the beginning, the constitution was amended in 2073 through a special general meeting to elect the senior vice president and the senior vice president automatically becomes the president. According to this arrangement, so far former presidents Bhavani Rana and Shekhar Golcha have become presidents while Dhakal is the incumbent. The current senior vice president Shrestha will also become president according to this arrangement.
