Confederation urges ambassadors to give top priority to economic diplomacy

The Confederation of Nepal Industry has asked the proposed ambassadors to give high priority to economic diplomacy. The president of the confederation, Rajesh Kumar Agarwal, urged the proposed Nepali ambassadors to keep the expansion of economic relations as a top priority.

He emphasized that the ambassadors should play an important role in connecting the investors of the respective countries to Nepal regarding the investment sector in Nepal by giving high priority to economic diplomacy.

President Agarwal said that a country-focused specific economic strategy should be made to promote investment and exports, and a 'focal contact person' should be kept in all Nepali embassies for foreign investors and domestic investors.

Presenting the example of the world where economic relations are stable and stronger than political relations with any country, he said that branding of a country can be done through business. He believed that since Nepal has been given a 'country rating' and has received a good rating, it can help bring in investments in the necessary areas in Nepal.

He said that in 2026, since Nepal will be upgraded to a developed country, the facilities that the country is getting should not decrease, and considering the interests of Nepal, it is necessary to enter into a PTA. The Confederation has also emphasized on the need to focus investment in the promotion of Nepali products, tourism, information technology, industry, hydropower, and infrastructure to reduce the high trade deficit.

On the said occasion, Amrit Bahadur Rai, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the ambassadors, as representatives of the country, will promote Nepali products and provide necessary facilitation to Nepali businessmen. He urged the Nepali commercial sector to establish contact with investors from the respective countries, to focus on facilitating the export of Nepali goods and services.

Nepali ambassadors Shankar Sharma, Seva Lamsal, Chitralekha Yadav, Chandrakumar Ghimire, Sumnima Tuladhar, Jung Bahadur Chauhan, Prof. Kapilman Shrestha, Prakashmani Poudel, Shivmaya Tumbahamfe, Poorna Bahadur Nepali, Netra Prasad Timsinale said that they will work as representatives of the country for the benefit of Nepal and Nepali people.

Every ambassador should keep economic diplomacy at the center and the ambassadors said that Nepali private sector should be facilitated for economic development.
