Gyan Bahadur Gharti of Sharada Municipality-14 Malneta, who has been farming in the traditional way, has been producing 80 quintals of ginger every year in seven plantations. He sold ginger at the rate of 20 per kg in 2077, 25 in 2078 and 25 in 2079. He sold it at the rate of 35 rupees last year.

This year, he is excited after selling at Rs 50 per kg right from the bari. He earned 500,000 from ginger last year and expects to earn more than 800,000 this year.

Buddhiram Giri of Malneta used to produce more than 65 quintals of ginger every year in his five ropani land. He was earning about 4 lakhs till last year and this year he has earned more than 2 lakhs by selling fresh and dry ginger after the price of ginger has increased.

Similarly, Suresh Oli, a farmer of Bagchaur Municipality-2 Kharibot, planted 10 quintals of seeds and produced 40 quintals this year. He made half of the ginger last year when all the ginger was not sold. While it was difficult to get the price till last year, this year he has sold it at 50 rupees per kilo from home.

After four years, the ginger farmers here got a good price. The price of ginger, which has not gone above Rs 25 to Rs 30 per kg since the corona epidemic, has increased this year. This year, farmers are selling at Rs 50 per kg from home and Rs 70 per kg in the market.

Apart from India, the farmers are happy after receiving demand from various companies. Gyan Bahadur Gharti, the leading farmer, said that all the farmers of Malneta are digging ginger and selling it without seeds.

Gharti says that the ginger which was not sold until the end of November last year, is now stored at home. Till last year, the ginger produced by the farmers went to a processing center in Surkhet. This year it has gone directly to Kathmandu, Nepalganj,' he said, 'Each farmer has earned 50 thousand to 2 lakh more income after the price of ginger.'

Sukvir Khadka of Siddhakumakh Rural Municipality-5 said that until last year, he had to wait for buyers from outside, so he did not have to wait this year. I sold 20 quintals of 8 quintals of ginger at the rate of 45 rupees per kg. Last year, 50,000 was earned, this year, 100,000 hands were sold," he said. One buyer came and took everything from the house.'

He says that he felt that his hard work has finally paid off after getting the price of ginger. Bhadra Bahadur Budhathoki of Bangad Kupinde-9 Sera said that after the price of ginger increased this year, it was easy to earn a living. "Until last year, local buyers were not allowed to take 20 rupees per kilo. They had to carry it in a dokoma and cross a distance of about two and a half hours and take it to the headquarters Khalanga and sell it. Local buyers used to pay after 6 months of keeping the ginger, or they used to deduct money for food. This year there was no problem like last year," he said.

Till last year, the district produced 22,000 tons of ginger and exported 4,831 tons of ginger worth 41 million, said Mahesh Acharya, acting head of the Agricultural Development Office, Salyan.

Although there is some decrease in production this year, it is estimated that the export will be around the same as last year and it will reach 430 million because of the increase in price. According to the data of the office, Malneta, which produces the best planted ginger in the country, and farmers across the district are planting ginger on 1,420 hectares of land every year.
