The old rice that has become the identity of Pokhara is now going to be bought by the Food Management and Trade Company Limited. An agreement has been reached between the Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality and food regarding the purchase of rice.
City chief Dhanraj Acharya said that an agreement has been reached regarding the purchase of agricultural produce produced within the city of Pokhara.
According to the agreement, the company will buy the local Raithane paddy produced by the farmers in the metropolitan area at a price determined by the Jethobudho procurement committee. For this, the metropolis will provide coupons to the farmers to purchase paddy in the quantity determined by the Real Farmer Identification and Purchase Committee.
This agreement will be in effect until the end of June 2018. Manhar Kadaria, the head of the agriculture division of the metropolis, said that the rice produced by the farmers should be taken to the place designated by the metropolis itself or to the warehouse of the company in Prithvi Chowk and Birouta.
By setting the support price of other 35 types of agricultural produce including Jethobuda, the metropolis has ensured the minimum profit price for the farmers.
According to Kadaria, the branding and marketing of agricultural produce and the Raithane hot market are also being conducted under the local product promotion campaign.
