The work on the Nagadhunga-Sisnekhola tunnel, which has been blocked for 10 days by the locals demanding compensation, has started on Tuesday. Locals of Chandragiri Municipality-1 and 2 had obstructed the work since last December 9, demanding compensation for the houses and land above the tunnel.

Tara Bahadur Khatri of Dahchok Basnet Press, located in Chandragiri-1, said that the project has sent information to the Cabinet to address their demands, so the decision to close until December 5 has been withdrawn.

'The house is cracked, there is only compensation for it,' he said, 'now there is no condition to build a house in this place, so the demand is to buy a house and build a house.' There was a

. He claimed that the risk remained even though it was avoided by adding gravel, cement, and sand.

About 6 months ago, the Development Assistance Implementation Division of the Road Department appointed a consultant to collect details of the damage to the houses on and around the tunnel. According to which, it was recommended to give full compensation to 18 houses including 7 above the tunnel and partial compensation to 75 houses.

It was also recommended to compensate agricultural produce during the construction of the tunnel. Accordingly, Sanjay Panthi, Senior Divisional Engineer of the project, said that compensation has been sent to the Council of Ministers through the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport. But no decision has been made yet.

076 The progress of the tunnel, which was started on 4th October, is 82 percent. Now the lining work is being done inside the tunnel.

The project said that 90 percent of the flyover construction work has been completed. The road department said that it will be difficult to complete the project on time due to frequent work stoppages. Gyanendra Kumar Jha, head of the Nagadhunga-Tunnel road construction project, said that the daily work was stopped and the loss was being incurred. "If the builders claim compensation for the days they are not able to work, they have to pay a large amount," he said.

In the budget statement for the financial year 081/82, it was mentioned that the tunnel will be put into operation after completion of all construction works. But due to repeated obstacles, the work cannot be done in the current financial year. According to the initial agreement, the duration of the project was till 080 Baisakh.

The deadline has been extended till 081 Baisakh 13 after the work is not completed within that time. The deadline has been extended till 082 October. Earlier, last February and March, the construction was not able to accelerate when the locals stopped the work for a month demanding various demands including water supply and compensation.

The construction of the tunnel is being done by the Japanese company Hazma Endo Corporation. In this project, which has a contract of 22 billion rupees, Japan has loan assistance of 16 and a half billion rupees. The Government of Nepal has invested 6 billion rupees in this. The 'break through' of the emergency tunnel took place on 080 July 22.

Its distance is 2557 meters. The 'break through' of the main tunnel of 2688 meters took place on 081 Baisakh 3. Since the project started, 3 underpasses, 4 box culverts, 1 overpass, 3 bridges have been constructed. The 2.307 km two-lane road from Balambu to Tutipakha, where the tunnel enters, is in the process of being completed.
