The physical progress of Nagadhunga-Sisnekhola tunnel construction has reached 80.5 percent in four years. Now the flyover construction work is in full swing at Balambu in Kathmandu.

Gyanendra Kumar Jha, Head of Nagadhunga-Sisne Khola Tunnel Construction Project, said that the lining work has been completed inside the tunnel and other finishing work is underway. According to him, so far 3 under passes, three box culverts, one over pass and 3 bridges have been completed.

With the 'break through' of the main tunnel on May 3, other construction work was started. In the budget statement for the financial year 081/82, it was mentioned that the tunnel will be put into operation after completion of all construction works. A 2.307 km two-lane road has been paved from Balambu to the mouth of the tunnel.

The 'break through' of the emergency tunnel took place on 080 July 22. Its distance is 2557 meters. According to the initial agreement, the duration of the project was till 080 Baisakh. As the work was not completed within that time, the deadline was extended till 081 Baisakh 13. But as the work could not be completed within that time, the deadline has been extended by one and a half years. According to this, Chief Jha said that vehicles will be put into operation from the tunnel within 082 October.

Its construction started on 04 Nov 076. However, due to the covid epidemic and the frequent disruptions of the locals, there is a problem in completing the project on time, said the project chief. "After the tunnel comes into operation, tires and fuel worth 1 billion 72 crore rupees will be saved," he said, "two-wheelers and vehicles carrying fuel will not be allowed to run in the tunnel." In this project, which has a contract of 22 billion rupees, Japan has loan assistance of 16 and a half billion rupees. The Government of Nepal has invested 6 billion rupees in this. The distance of the main tunnel is 2.688 km.
