Although there is no specific reason for the price increase, some businessmen have used the price increase in the international market as an excuse. Some have raised prices by citing advance taxes and floods for the current financial year. The price of food items with advance income tax will increase by at least 10 percent. 

Even the non-taxable goods have seen an abnormal price increase. While the market price is rising, the regulatory body seems to be in favor of industrialists. "The market situation is chaotic. The condition of edible oil, vegetables, potatoes and other food items that are consumed in the morning and evening have not been touched," said Madhav Timilsina, president of Consumer Rights Research Forum. "Besides this, the price of fruits has also increased. The government has been 'lobbying' in favor of the businessmen when the prices were raised due to floods and the international market. When the price of edible oil increases for no reason, the regulatory body is making the international market the reason. Timilsina says that this indicates the collusion between the government and businessmen.

Businessmen have charged arbitrary prices for vegetables and fruits even in times of calamity. They charged a high price for the old goods, making excuses that the highway was closed due to the flood and there was no import. Now the road has become easier. No problem with supply. But looking at Kalimati fruit and vegetable market and external market prices, the price of vegetables has not decreased. The price of Golvenda is increasing day by day, it has not been touched.

Compared to three months, the price of Golvenda has increased by 287 percent. According to the Kalimati Fruit and Vegetable Market Development Committee, the price of Golvenda Sano (local) on August 9, 2018 was Rs 31 per kg. On Friday, the price increased to Rs 120 per kg. Golvenda Sano was priced at Rs 105 per kg on Thursday, increasing to Rs 120 on Friday.

The price of Golvenda Sano (Tunnel) has also increased tremendously. According to the committee's data, Golvenda, which was priced at Rs 36 per kg, increased to Rs 130 on August 9. Even compared to Thursday, the price of tunnel golvanda has increased by 5 rupees per kg. On Thursday, Golvenda of small (tunnel) was traded at Rs 125 per kg. 

Three months ago, Golvenda Big (Indian) was priced at Rs 85. It has increased to Rs 125 till Friday. All mentioned are wholesale prices. Golvenda prices are even more attractive when it comes to retail. Small traders have been selling by setting their own prices.

The information officer of the committee, Vinay Shrestha, said that the floods and landslides in October affected the prices. For that reason, the supply has not been able to meet the demand. The committee meets about 70 percent of the demand of the valley. But looking at the import volume, there is no improvement. "Now the price of vegetables should come down. But the vegetables that were about to be prepared were destroyed. Golvenda also used to come in about 60 tons daily, now it has reduced to only about 22 tons,' he said, 'Now it comes only from around Kathmandu. It will also come from Terai after a week, then the price may decrease.' 

In three months, the prices of vegetables such as potato, onion, carrot, cauliflower, radish, banta, bodi, beans, bitter gourd, ghiraunla, farsi, okra, kurilo, broccoli, chili have increased. Apart from green vegetables, the prices of fruits such as bananas, pomegranates, watermelons, mausam, junar, bhuinkathar, mewa have also increased. During this period, the price of Pokhareli rice in Trishuli increased by Rs 5 to Rs 115 per kg. The price of edible oil is high. Nepali oil industry has increased the price after India increased the customs rate of palm, soybean and sunflower crude oil by 20 percent. As they get more value for exporting to India, they have focused on exports rather than domestic sales.
