As the Manthali-Lukla flight could not take place due to bad weather, the foreign tourists stranded in Manthali have started chartering helicopters to go to Phaplu and Surke.
Even on Thursday, flights from Manthali Airport to Khumbu have not been able to take off. Tourists stuck here since Monday due to lack of flights have chartered helicopters and started going to Phaplu and Surke.
Manthali Airport Deputy Manager Hiran Sahle informed that 5 private company helicopters are taking tourists to and from Phaplu and Surke from Manthali. He said that due to the bad weather in Khumbu, flights from Manthali Airport could not be operated even on the fourth day.
"Foreign tourists at the airport are being taken to Faplu and Surke by helicopter," he said, "so far more than 60 tourists have flown away, others are preparing to fly." He said that Nepali Army aircraft will fly to Lukla from Manthali Airport to bring tourists, but no official information has been received yet.
'No official information has been received so far,' he said, 'I have only come to know from the media, there is no other information.' Defense Minister Manvir Rai said on Wednesday that the Nepali Army plane will rescue the tourists in Lukla.
On Wednesday morning, after the weather cleared, there were 16 flights to Lukla. More than 1,000 tourists are staying at the airport to go to Lukla. 3 private sector planes are making more than 55 flights every day from morning to evening during clear weather.
The weather in the Himalayan region is changing from the 20th of October. The mountains that open in the autumn are dimly visible. The Civil Aviation Authority has been operating flights from Manthali to Lukla targeting tourists visiting Mount Everest.
Private sector Summit, Tara and Sita Air planes are flying from Manthali Airport for tourists going to Mount Everest. Flight from Manthali Airport to Lukla is available from Chaitra to May in the spring season and from October to November in the autumn season.
