Due to the floods, the import trade through Tatopani and Rasuwa, the two main border crossings with China, has been stopped since Saturday. The flood in Bhotekosi has washed away the motorable bridge of Larcha and Liping on the Arnico highway near the border area, while the road connecting Rasuwagadhi crossing has been washed away everywhere.

Not only business has been stopped by Tatopani and Rasuwa, the local residents are in great fear due to the lack of electricity, communication and transportation. It is impossible to even walk in hot water. Cargo containers are stranded on the road and commercial goods worth billions of rupees are insecure. This has created a situation where Nepali businessmen have to bear the loss of crores of rupees.

After the earthquake, the Tatopani crossing was completely closed for four consecutive years and the import business was gradually increasing for the last two years. Export trade was opened by China only in 078. But there is no export from Tatopani. Kumar Shrestha, Ward Chairman of Bhotekosi Rural Municipality-2, said that after two motorized bridges connecting China were swept away, Tatopani Pass was returned at the time of the earthquake.

The border region is very panicked now. Since the time of opening of the roads of both the crossings is uncertain, hundreds of containers worth billions of goods imported by Nepali traders have been stranded in China and Nepali territory. Not only in Nepal, but also the road and bridge connecting Kuti from Tatopani and Kerung from Rasuwagadhi to China have been washed away by floods, and the operation of both crossings has become uncertain.

According to the information given by the Nepalese businessman citing the Kerung administration of China, it has been decided not to operate the transport for at least a week to open the road to China. The chief district officer of Rasuwa, Vednidhi Khanal, said that the work has been started by using excavators and dozers from three places to open the road towards Rasuwagadhi in Nepal.

The condition of the road is very bad in the 17 km area from Syafrubesi to Rasuwagadhi in Rasuwa. Khanal said that work has started to remove the landslide from the road as quickly as possible.

Hundreds of containers of fruits, including apples, pomegranates, and garlic, brought especially for Dasain, have been stopped on the way to the border area. In particular, what is the condition of the commercial goods brought out for sale during Dasain, such as ready-made clothes, shoes, bags, slippers, cosmetics, etc.?

As a result of commercial goods getting stuck on the road, the Nepal Himalayan Cross Border Commerce Association has said that the collection of cargo containers and imported goods stuck at the border on both sides has been started.

The president of the Himalayan Cross Border Commerce Association Ramhari Karki says that the businessmen are expecting government support to bring the goods loaded in the containers in Larcha Dry Port, Khasa and Kuti and Kerung and Rasuwadhi in Tatopani Naka into Nepal. Ganga Bahadur Ghimire (Sagar), the senior vice president of the association, said that the businessmen held a meeting in Kathmandu on Sunday and requested the relevant agencies to assist in the transport operation to bring the goods that were stopped into Nepal. He said that if the transportation cannot be carried out on time, the businessmen will have to bear a huge loss.

About one and a half hundred containers of goods are stuck in the Tatopani border area, said Buddharaj Basnet, president of the Sindhupalchok Industry and Commerce Association.

He says that because the apples, pears, and garlic in the container disappear and rot in a short time, the businessmen have to bear a huge loss.
