A human remains have been found in a bus found on the banks of the Trishuli River in Dongdrangbesi, Abukhaireni Rural Municipality-5, Tanahun.
Human remains were found in the Ganapati Deluxe bus on the 16th day of the excavation. Chitwan Chief District Officer (CDO) Ganesh Aryal informed that a remains were found in the middle seat of the bus. He said that a team including a doctor had brought the human remains to the Bharatpur Hospital morgue from the place where the bus was found. ‘After the human remains are found, the rest of the process will proceed from Chitwan, we will proceed with the further testing process,’ said CDO Aryal.
The engine part of the bus was taken out on Monday, while the back and middle parts are yet to be taken out. Since the remains were found in the middle of the bus, the work of removing the bus will continue, said Santa Bahadur Shrestha, also known as Tire Kanchha, the head of Milan Chainpuli, who was deployed in the excavation. ‘Now we will separate all the parts of the vehicle and remove them, it may not take many days,’ said Tire Kanchha.
Tanahun's Milan Chainpuli Company, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force teams are continuously excavating with the help of chainpuli. On December 10, a local man found the remains of the vehicle while fishing and informed the police. From that day, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force had started excavating the sand using shovels to remove the remains.
On July 12, 2002, a Ganapati Yatayat bus (Province 03-001 Kha 2495) going from Kathmandu to Gaur and a Bagmati Province 03-006 Kha 1516 bus (Bagmati Yatayat bus) going from Birgunj to Kathmandu were swept away by a landslide in Simaltal, 22 kilometers northeast of Narayangadh, Bharatpur-29, and fell into Trishuli and disappeared. Out of the 65 passengers on both buses, the buses reached the river, but three passengers on the Ganapati Yatayat bus swam to the surface. All others were swept away with the bus.
Only a few bodies were found among those who were involved in the accident. Five hundred security personnel, including divers from the Nepal Army and the Armed Forces, water drones (sonar) and police, were deployed to search for the bus and passengers. The government had also brought in high-tech divers from India for further search. But the bus could not be found.
