An agreement was reached between the local and central governments on Monday regarding the incident where a body was swept away after the Indus Hydropower Distribution Center in Lamosanghu suddenly opened its dam without prior notice on Sunday afternoon. With the agreement, electricity generation, which has been suspended since Sunday, will resume from Monday night.
After the incident, the 10.05 MW capacity electricity generation was disrupted from 11 am on Sunday when angry locals diverted the center's canal towards the river.
The agreement was reached after discussions between Tripurasundari Rural Municipality Chairman Bhaktadhwaj Bohara, Ward Chairman Ramesh Bohara, ward members, local leaders, and the center's chief Suman Maharjan and administration representatives on Monday.
According to local leader Bishwa Bohara, the agreement was possible only after the center was ready to come to an agreement after two days of delay. According to the agreement, coordination in dam operation, regular information flow, mandatory warning system in case of emergency, and arrangements to ensure that uncontrolled water does not affect ghats, cemeteries and settlements will be implemented immediately.
The locals had demanded that compensation for past damages be finalized, permanent structures such as embankments and walls be constructed, and materials for the under-construction toll roads and canals be provided on time.
According to Tripurasundari Rural Municipality Chairman Bohara, the locals were further angered by the statement that the hydropower side had not given a formal response to the incident that happened on Sunday. The locals had warned that they would hold protests and lockouts if a written agreement was not reached. After the agreement was reached, the power generation resumed after the affected party and the locals opened the canal.
