Nepali-American runner Bal Joshi has entered the Guinness Book of World Records by completing the 'World Marathon Challenge' in Daura Suruwal.

Joshi has entered the Guinness Book of World Records by running in a traditional Nepali outfit in seven marathons held on seven continents for seven consecutive days under the 'World Marathon Challenge'.

He has become the first runner in the world to run in a Nepali outfit in a marathon held on seven continents for seven consecutive days. His world record has been recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. Guinness Book of World Records representative Michael Imprick presented Joshi with a certificate at the closing ceremony of the 'World Marathon Challenge' held in Miami, USA on Friday.

The marathon, which started from Antarctica on January 31, was concluded in Miami, USA on Friday. He hoisted the Nepali and American flags at the closing of all the seven marathons held on seven continents under the 'World Marathon Challenge'. The ‘World Marathon Challenge’, which has been held every year since 2015, is considered extremely challenging.

Since seven marathons are held on seven continents for seven consecutive days, this competition is called the ‘777 Marathon’. In ‘777 Marathon’ 2026, 56 runners from 32 countries, including Joshi, participated. The marathon, which started in Antarctica, passed through Cape Town in Africa, Perth in Australia, Dubai in Asia, Madrid in Spain, Brazil, and ended in Miami, USA on the seventh day.

Born in Surkhet, 41-year-old Joshi has been in the US for two decades. Joshi, who lives in Grapevine City in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in Texas, is a banker by profession. He said that he used the ‘World Marathon Challenge’ as an opportunity to promote Nepali heritage in a short period of time.

‘I took this challenging marathon as an opportunity to introduce my homeland Nepal, Nepali heritage and culture,’ he said, ‘I am happy that the effort made to respect the land and heritage of my birth has been successful.’ Joshi wore different Daura Suruwals in seven marathons held in seven days, seven continents. All of those Daura Suruwals were prepared by Bishwa Gautam of Kathmandu.
