What you should know
Due to internal strife within the Nepali Congress, voting for mid-term elections for the House of Representatives was scheduled for Kartik 29, 2051. This was the second parliamentary election after the 2046 change.
In particular, due to the internal conflict between the Congress and the UML, more than half a dozen people lost their lives during the election campaign. Dozens of civilians and party leaders and activists were injured. There were also doubts that the election atmosphere would be spoiled due to murders, fights between party workers, and police interference in districts such as Dang, Palpa, Sunsari, Morang, Sindhupalchowk.
Indian leaders were present in the districts of Madhesh and sought votes for the candidate they wanted to win. Due to extreme factionalism within the Congress, rebel candidates had stood up in more than 50 seats. However, the main competition in the election was between the Congress and the UML. Although some developments made the election situation seem uncomfortable, the overall situation in the country was election-oriented.
Interesting incidents such as candidates riding horses to reach voters, Indian leaders coming to Nepal to seek votes, and voters being taken on airplanes to cast their votes were also seen. There were also incidents where leaders who had come from India to campaign were sent back by the government machinery. ![[Archive] This is how the mid-term elections were held 31 years ago](https://assets-cdn.ekantipur.com/uploads/source/news/kantipur/2025/miscellaneous/page1kpr-18102025124758-1000x0.jpg)

Focusing on the campaigning style seen in the mid-term elections, the violent activities in the course of the election campaign, and the government's preparations for the election, journalists Purushottam Marhattha from Pokhara, Bikash Rauniyar from Mustang, and the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) from Kathmandu prepared a news report titled 'Today Voting Across the Kingdom, Chartering Airplanes to Vote', which was published by Kantipur Daily on the day of the election on Kartik 29, 2051.
