In the by-elections held in Kathmandu-1 on January 25, 2050, under the direction of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, the conclusion that Krishna Prasad Bhattarai lost was concluded by the majority of the Congress i.e. 56 MPs. Congress workers were protesting day after day in the capital, especially on the basis of the 17-minute long radio statement given by Prime Minister Koirala a week before the polling.
The Congress workers also accused Koirala of instructing UML candidate Bidya Bhandari to vote. The supporters of Bhattarai seemed to be more aggressive when the then leaders of Nepal Vidyarthi Sangh, who are now playing the role of MP and leader in the Congress, were involved in the conflict. It was their understanding that Prime Minister Koirala had secret instructions for all this work.
That's why the Congress workers shouted slogans like "Desh chhod Girija, Girija kasko UML" to their own leader. The outrage that started the day after the counting of votes started did not stop. People used to go to Baluwatar and Singhdarbar in a procession. The police intervened repeatedly on the procession of Congress workers and supporters.
It was seen that the Congress carried the party's flag and protested against its own party's Prime Minister Koirala . Congress workers were continuing their protest against Prime Minister Koirala by holding corner meetings in various squares of Kathmandu. Koirala did not say a word about the protests against him.
While sloganeering was going on in the streets, more than 56 MPs elected from the Congress accused Koirala of indirectly leading the conflict. A gathering of MPs expressed regret over the incident without mentioning Koirala's name. This increased the infighting within the Congress .
A gathering of MPs sitting at the residence of Congress central member Sheikh Idris reviewed the issue of Bhattarai's defeat. It was decided by the meeting of parliamentarians that action should be taken against those who interfered in the election . The parliamentarians prepared a statement on the election issues and prepared to collect the signatures of more parliamentarians . The gap of division within the Congress was widening after it was decided that the majority was in favor of MP Bhattarai in the meeting and he had to lose the election due to infighting.
A meeting of the Kathmandu District Committee and Kathmandu-1 Regional Committee of the Congress was also called to discuss the issue of Bhattarai defeat. In the election, some leaders accused Congress workers from outside Kathmandu of helping in the conflict.
Regional Chairman Lokesh Dhakal said that he had instructed to identify the person from the party units and recommend for action. He informed that action will be taken not only against the Congress leaders and workers from the constituency but also from outside the district.
Bhattarai's defeat, the protest against Prime Minister Koirala by his own party workers on the streets and the widening rift within the party, prepared by journalist Taranath Dahal, was published by Kantipur Dainik on 29th March 2050.
