Even today, the horrifying incident of Nepali women being sold in the Indian sex market continues to be publicized from time to time. But for three decades, the term human trafficking was not in common use. At the time when this word was in vogue, such incidents were rarely made public. Few of the incidents that were made public were investigated in detail. One such incident is the story of Sindhupalchok, Simla, who was sold to India by his uncle Jam Bahadur at the age of 20.
Uncle Jam Bahadur had taken Shimla to Bombay and sold it to Bombay for 2,000 rupees after being enticed to take it for a tour. She was sexually abused there for 5 years . Simla, who escaped and returned to Nepal, then took girls from the rural parts of Nepal to India and got involved in the sex trade.
45-year-old Shimla was arrested in August 2050. The incident of his arrest became sensational news all over the country spread .
After Shimla was arrested, she complained to the police that she was sold by her uncle Jam Bahadur. Jam Bahadur was also arrested after that complaint. In the court statement, Shimla's claims were conflicted. On the one hand, she complained against Jam Bahadur saying that he sold her in Bombay, on the other hand, she said that she did not see Bombay to prove that he did not take girls and sell them in Bombay. But in the police investigation, it was found that he took Melamchi's Gita to Bombay and sold it to Sita Lama's Kothi for 25,000 baht. It was also seen in the police investigation that Sita and Ranjit Tamang ran a Kothi in Bombay.
Simla dug the same path for others that she escaped from. That is, with the help of Juthe and Asharam of Sindhupalchok, she ran a network of taking girls from rural areas to Bombay and selling them.
It was Shimla who took Geeta to Bombay and sold her. Geeta filed a police complaint against Ranjith while she was being treated for HIV AIDS after returning to Kathmandu. After this complaint, Ranjith was arrested from his house in Chabhil. Ranjith gave a statement that Geeta was sold by Juthe Tamang and Asharam. During this investigation, the police gathered the body of Juthe Tamang buried in the Lekali area of Sindhupalchok. During the investigation, the police said that Juthe might have been killed after 'leaking' the information about Shimla running Kothi in Bombay.
At that time, this incident was so complicated, the police was identifying new accused in every mode of investigation. The whole society was shaken by the mysterious events that were being discovered in the research. At this time, after Shimla was arrested, this incident became even bigger.
Shimla, who came to Nuwakot after getting married from Sindhupalchok, had also taken a girl from Nuwakot to India and sold them to India. At that time, another thing was also in discussion . That Shimla has a relationship with the leader of the political party. In the police statement, Shimla said that she had donated money to the then Prime Minister Marichman Singh in the 2045 earthquake relief fund. Similarly, the police also collected the information that he went to his home in Nuwakot in a helicopter.
Journalist Prateek Bhandari wrote the story of women trafficking. June 2050 It was published on the front page of Kantipur on the 16th of October under the title 'Confession of crime from those who sell girls: Simal and Ranjit in prison'.
In that news, a detailed story of women trafficking at that time has been taken down . According to the news, in August 2050, 17 women filed a case in Sindhupalchok District Court saying that they were sold. In 2043, 045, 047 and 049, complaints regarding trafficking were also registered in the court. The person related to the complaint was being searched.
In the year 2043, Sapna called Brinda, Damai defeated Hariprasad Paudel in Hetound, in 2044 Sunita Tamang against Watal Tamang, Mithu Tamang against Gupt Bahadur Tamang, in November 2045 Surya Tamang against Chandra Bahadur Tamang, Mangli Tamang against Shyam Lama, Gauri Tamang against Sun Lama, in 2047 Chhema Tamang against Ram Bahadur. Against Tamang, Padamkumari Thapa filed a case against Som Bahadur Kami, Chhoti Tamang against Krishnabhakta Tamang, Parvati Lamichhane filed a case against Kanchha Lama in 2049.
In the fifties, some cases were closed and some were under investigation. In the beginning, there were a lot of cases where the case was weakened due to the problem that the victim did not go to the court for a statement.
The Shimla side also lured Geeta Danuwar to not go to the statement and changed her statement after she went. The police of that time used to make him 'hostile' saying, 'You have AIDS, you will die, but I will help you with some money, don't go to give a statement'.
Because the victims themselves are at risk of being pressured and influenced, the Human Trafficking and Trafficking Act of 2064 stipulates that only the initial complaint given by the victim will be accepted as evidence. If the statement is not given or the statement is changed, the original application can be considered as a legal provision.
