The election for the post of General Secretary in the ongoing first general convention of the Nepali Congress (NRC) has been very competitive and complicated. Initially, there were 10 candidates, but now there will be a competition between 5 candidates. Earlier, Kavindra Burlakoti, Pramod Neupane, Jagadish Kharel, and Ganesh Parajuli had withdrawn their candidacies. They have decided to support Bipin Acharya.

Rajunath Pandey and Ranju Darshana have also announced their withdrawal of candidacies. Since the announcement was made after the publication of the final list, Ranju's candidacy will remain in effect. Manish Jha, Ganesh Karki, Sagar Dhakal, and Bipin Acharya are seen in the competition. In this context, here is an edited excerpt of the conversation between General Secretary candidate Manish Jha and media persons at the general convention venue in Bharatpur, Chitwan:

There is a lot of competition and interest, especially for the post of General Secretary. What exactly is happening?

It is said that what should not be done, it is done badly. This happens in the democratic process, the election process. It is a situation created by time. Some people did some group exercises, this is against the statement of our leader.

Ravi Dai had come here and said that group exercises should not be done. If someone is doing it in his shadow, the Chairman is not aware, but his name is being defamed.

Is there a front against Manish Jha without the Chairman's knowledge?

There is nothing to say against Manish Jha or in support of Ganesh Karki. Rather than individual support or opposition, this is just a matter of why this group exercise is being carried out.

Did you also come under pressure to withdraw your candidacy?

Last night, there was talk that we should go together. Consensus is not always a sacrifice. Sometimes it is also a gain. I also asked the question why the political consensus I make always ends up being a sacrifice.

I told the chairman and vice-chairman - I have no greed for ministerial positions. I want to reform the party. Give me a chance, I want to improve the party's weaknesses in this term.

Some heavyweight leaders have withdrawn their candidacies and supported Bipin Acharya, right?

If they were heavyweights, they would not have withdrawn. They would have stuck to their word. They withdrew because they were lightweights.

Why is there so much attraction and interest in the post of general secretary?

The post of General Secretary is an executive post . Such posts are important in parties that are in the democratic process . This will also make history as the first  elected General Secretary from the general convention of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

I had said that I would claim this post  6 days ago . I did not file my candidacy for 2-4 hours like some other candidates, my candidacy remains the same .
