The government formed on the strength of the Gen-G movement on Bhadra 23-24 has completed the elections on time. Sushila Karki, who became Prime Minister on Bhadra 27, had announced that the elections for the House of Representatives would be held on Falgun 21. Voting ended peacefully across the country on Thursday. In this context, Kantipur had a brief conversation with Prime Minister Karki on Thursday evening: When you took over the leadership and announced the elections, there was doubt that the elections would be held on the scheduled date. But how do you think this success was possible?

We were confident that we could work. If we had perseverance, it would be possible if we worked hard on something. Despite the challenges, we continued to work according to our responsibilities. It is not that we were not attacked in various ways. It is not that we did not face obstacles. But we were not deterred by that. We believed that if we work selflessly and with integrity, we will succeed. Despite all the obstacles, we did not give up.

The election was held on the scheduled date. Who would you like to thank and whose role do you think was the most important?

I am happy that I was able to fulfill the assigned responsibility. But I did not make this possible alone. The entire Council of Ministers has worked hard. The Election Commission, security agencies, employees, political parties, and candidates all have a role to play. Especially the Nepali people who accepted our call and participated in the election made it successful. Thank you to all of them.

This process has also been possible due to the high restraint and understanding of the martyred families and injured warriors. This is a sign of their concern and dedication towards democracy, stability, peace, and the future of this country. My deepest condolences to all of them.

It is also said that you made some compromises while conducting the elections on time. For example, the Karki Commission report was not made public before the elections. You also spoke to the leadership of the old parties who said they would not turn a blind eye. What do you have to say about this?

The commission will be implemented as soon as its report is submitted. I have been saying that there should be no place for any kind of impunity in the country. Not only the current commission, but if there are other such reports, we will look into them and make them public. So that the people know.

This government was formed against the backdrop of great bloodshed as per the demands of the gen-jis. Initially, there was no possibility of dialogue with all parties. However, gradually, we increased dialogue and harmony by taking all parties into confidence. There was no alternative for all parties to come together. Everyone realized that the appropriate democratic way out of this was through elections.

What is your opinion on what the government should do first after the elections?

Let each voice raised in the Genji movement be addressed. There should be no corruption, nepotism, or favoritism here. No youth should go abroad feeling injustice and discrimination in their own country. No one should come back from abroad as a corpse. Let there be an environment where people can eat well in their own country.
